Bank corporate:
Location: Port-Louis (the capital of Mauritius) and Rose-Hill.
Mission & Vision: To cover the area of Port-Louis & Rose-Hill. To serve the customers
including “differently abled customers” with passion. To make Mauritius self-sustainable.
Estimated cost: MUR 3 Billion

Time: Operations are due to begin as from 10 September 2019 and are expected to end by 10
September 2020.

Stakeholder: This project is undertaken by Metro Express Limited, a wholly-owned company

of the Government of Mauritius.

Benefit of this project: there will be a conspicuous transformation in the way people will
commute from one place to another, hence allowing Mauritius to be redefined and modernized
significantly.
Commuters lose too much time daily in traffic jams, especially as they travel from home to the
workplace and back. Also, Mauritius, being a small island, is reaching its limits in terms of
accommodating new road networks, thus, this project will be of great benefits to the population.
Moreover, the employees will be more productive as there will spend less time in traffic jams.
Likewise, it is estimated that traffic congestion is costing Mauritius 4 billion rupees every year
and this annual cost is projected to more than double to reach approximately 10 billion rupees
by 2030. Various alternatives have been studied over the years and hence, the Metro has turned
out to be the superior option. The Metro Express project will generate net job creation in the
transportation sector itself which should allay any apprehensions about job losses among bus
employees. Vast opportunities for SME operators. Extension of the line to airport in the future
would significantly enhance the tourism product as well.

In view of these ever-increasing demands for transportation facilities by the people of

Mauritius, the Government of Mauritius set-up a joint-venture with equal partnership named
as Metro Express Ltd, in order to initiate and execute a potential world-class, passenger-
friendly and eco-friendly Mass-Rapid-Transit System.
