UNIT – I
Introduction:
Conventional energy resources, the present scenario, scope for future development.
Coal:
Origin, occurrence and reserves, classification, ranking, analysis and testing, coal
carbonization, manufacture of coke, coal gasification, coal liquefaction.

UNIT – II
Petroleum:
Origin, occurrence and reserves, composition, classification, characteristics, exploration and
production.
Petroleum Refining:
Refinery processes, petroleum products, testing and analysis of petroleum products.

UNIT – III
Non conventional energy sources:
Solar energy, solar radiation, principles of heating and cooling, photo voltaic cells.Bio gas
products, bio-mass, wind energy, hydrogen energy, geothermal and ocean thermal energy, fuel
cells.

UNIT – IV
Energy storage:
mechanical energy storage, water storage, solar pond, phase change storage, chemical
storage.
Energy Conservation:
Conservation methods in process industries, Theoretical analysis, practical limitations,
equipment for energy saving / recovery.
