The aim of the project was to design a theatre
in Gavipuram locality which symbolises and
gives an identity to the locality
The word ‘Gavi’ is a kannada word which means
a Cave and the evolution of the cave structure
is shown below.

These Urban follies serves as
Vendor carts, Bus shelters,
Chat carts etc. in the day time
and are converted into Sleeping
Pods at night. Also these modules
can be collapsed when not in use.

Combnation of modern day material like


ACP sheet and native material like pressed
bamboo mat is used for the design of the
module which can be related to Domlur ward
itself which has old and modern parts.
A core material made up of recycled tetrapack
is used as an insulation material which helps
the inhabitants during the night.

PAVILION DESIGN FOR STONE INSCRIPTIONS
DESIGN BRIEF

Design an open / semi - open pavilion to exhibit or preserve these stones at a public space. The
same should act like an event or an exhibit space for talks and discussions and at the same time be a
permanent shelter for these stones. There should be provision for exhibit of information of all the
inscription and space to mention about the era. The design should be informed by the tangible
heritage of Bangalore.
SIZE of the pavilion - 10 ft X 10 ft (should be able to replicate as a module)

The design was inspired


by the Chola Chatri structure
