Unit 11: LO 1: Understand progression routes and related application processes.

University:
What skills/traits do you have that would make you a good university student?
I am an independent and hardworking learner which means I will be able to learn at my
own pace and teach myself. I have a visual imagination which helps me to visualise what
my work will look like. I am conscientious and I am able to take responsibility for my
learning. I enjoy learning and research and will be able to be more independent in my
learning. To go into a media course will be easy for me as I can write scripts and visualise
scenes. I have a vivid imagination but I hate group work as I am impatient and don’t like
waiting for others to make up their minds.
Pros and Cons of University.
More independence. Less regulated working (it’s up to you)
More experiences. It’s not for everyone.
Degrees can broaden options. It costs a lot.

Work on live shows within the college, in London and beyond. As a vital member of the

role and workings of other technical departments through hands-on experience. Develop
the skills to supervise and manage wardrobe departments in large and small theatres.

Design, Management and Technical Arts to learn about the performance, arts and
events industries and how to use experimentation, enquiry and creative research in your
work, and prepare to build a successful career. UK/EU students – Up to £9250.
I like this course however my hatred for London
means I’ll never go there, plus it costs £5372 for an
annual season ticket to London. It is a very
professional college but I wouldn’t feel safe going
there due to the current dangers within London.

I absolutely adore the way this course looks and I want to see what it’s like however it
doesn’t have an open day on its website. There are also no apparent accommodation
for this college which may prevent me as travel is a major issue for me.

York College appeals to me as it isn’t too far from home and I can honestly see myself
excelling in the course. I honestly don’t see myself travelling there and back every day.
I have signed up for the
open day as I feel it will
give me a better look
into whether or not I
should do this course.
This place has no
accommodation listings available
online. Once again travel is a big issue
for me.

Internships:
An internship is work (sometimes
without pay) for students looking to get into a field of work in particular.
I think I’d be good for this internship as I

have good
written
English, I find organising things interesting and I’m good at
managing others. I wouldn’t have a hard time finding
ways to get there as soon as I learn to
drive (the drive would be fifty-two
minutes).
I think I’d be good for this internship as
I can edit, I have English skills and I
have a ‘creative eye’ and always
pay attention to details. However I
would still need communication skills,
prioritization skills, an ability to work in
teams and a university degree.

Personally I know I could do this job but

it doesn’t appeal to me and I’m not
willing to travel into London regularly
for work.
I don’t know if I’m fully qualified
for this job, however it looks like
it would help me get into the
working world faster and
doesn’t seem too hard or high
pressure.
Travel and Work
You could honestly travel anywhere, for example, Alabama has its own very famous web
series, Marble Hornets, and you can tell its central Alabama locations due to ‘Buck Creek
Amphitheatre in Old Town Helena’ as well as ‘The Red Tower is an old structure found in
Oak Mountain State Park’. I would say this is creepy but then again I study serial killers in
my free time.
I would need social skills in order to get my own cast, writing skills in order to produce
scripts. Acting, Camera and Editing skills. But in all honesty this would be pretty easy to do
in England as well and I see no reason to leave home.
