PROCEDURES FOR CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND UPDATING

The LSAR of the Augustinian Recollect Educational Apostolate:

LEARNING STANDARDS OF AUGUSTINIAN RECOLLECT (LSAR) is the curriculum
design formulated for all Augustinian Recollect schools in the Philippines to ensure the alignment
to the standards and competencies of the Department of Education (DepEd), and uniformity in
design. The bases of LSAR are the K to 12 Curriculum or Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum
(EBEC), content and performance standards, and competencies in Curriculum (CG) of DepEd, and
the school’s vision-mission and core values (formation standards).

STEPS:

STEP 1: the Subject-Matter Budget (SMB). What to do in Subject-Matter Budget (SMB):

1. list down the topics or lessons per school year;

2. divide the lessons per quarter; and
3. determine how many weeks per quarter.

Use the SMB format and fill in three topics/lessons per quarter as a practice.

FIRST QUARTER SECOND QUARTER THIRD QUARTER FOURTH QUARTER

(June to August) (September to October) (November to December) (January to March)

To ensure the alignment of LSAR to the content and performance standards, and
competencies of DepEd, use the format of Formulation of Learning Standards of Augustinian
Recollect or FLSAR.

Let us do it step by step, so that, later on, it is easy for you to formulate the
Learning Standards of Augustinian Recollect (LSAR). Let us follow the format
of FLSAR. Take note that FLSAR is done per quarter. In other words, there
should be four FLSAR per subject.

FIRST STEP: Fill in the first column “Content Standard”

This standard of learning focuses on the understanding of responsible

parenthood for a healthy family life, so that the students will be able to present
an infomercial showing informed and values-based decisions in preparation for
responsible parenthood, thus, making the learner a responsible
parent/guardian in the future.

Congratulations! You are ready to formulate a sample of LSAR. Do the activity
below. Follow the format on how to formulate an LSAR. This is Formulation of
Learning Standards of Augustinian Recollect (FLSAR) format. Study the CG of
your subject area (one level and one quarter only), and do the FLSAR by filling
in the format.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY

Let me introduce to you the lesson plan format of our school.

This format is to ensure that our students are really engaged in the
teaching-learning process. This is part of LSAR.

EVOKE - This is an assessment conducted before the start of the topic discussion. The purpose
of the test is to assess the prior knowledge of the learners. Identifying and discovering prior
knowledge of the learners allows the teacher to present new information at appropriate level for
the students, and adjust instruction based on students’ background of the lesson.

EXCITE - The best lessons and upgraded materials in the world will not get students excited about
learning if they are not actually well motivated. Motivation is the key factor in the success of
students in learning the lessons. This stage offers motivational activities and strategies to get the
students become so enthusiastic about learning, and sustaining their interest towards the end of the
lesson.

ELEVATE - Every teacher tries his/her best in presenting the lesson to the students in the most
creative way, and at the same time hooking students’ interest to discover and explain the lesson on
their own. This stage of teaching-learning approach presents the lesson to the students utilizing
various strategies.

ENRICH - One of the biggest challenges that our teachers face today in teaching the generation
Z and the Alpha generation is to sustain the interest of the learners to do the classroom tasks.
Enrich stage provides engaging and motivating activities that will reinforce their knowledge and
skills gained in the Elevate stage.

EMPLOY - One of the 21st Century skills that is considered to be critically important to success
in today’s world is collaboration. It is for this reason that the Employ stage offers variety
collaborative activities to enhance students’ leadership, teamwork and cooperation.

EXPAND - Learning is not to be limited in the context of one subject area only. It should expand
to other areas of learning, but most importantly, it should radiate to the values that the students
need to learn and practice. Expand stage offers creative activities that would enhance holistic
learning through bridging gaps among areas of discipline. It also enriches the faith since Expand
tasks utilized Biblical stories and texts.

ENACT - Performance-based learning and assessment is one of the facets of DepEd K to 12

Curriculum. Enact stage offers the students performance tasks that would apply their learning in
context. All Enact activities are multi-faceted, meaning they assess several standards and
outcomes. These activities are evaluated with established criteria and rubric.
EVALUATE - Assessment of student learning requires the use of a number of techniques for
measuring student’s achievement. Evaluation plays a very important role in teaching-learning
process. It gives the learners different tasks to assess their understanding and abilities. All tasks
that are found in the other Es fall under the stage of Evaluate.
