CHAPTER 1

The Problem and its background of the study

This chapter presents the problem of the study, statement of the problem, significance of the
study and scope and delimitation of the study.

INTRODUCTIO

The banana fruit particularly Saba (Musa acuminata balbisiana) a native plant from Asia,
which is best cultivated in Philippines. The fruit of banana is commonly eaten fresh or made as juice. It is
also popular for jam and syrup. The potential food and nutraceutical from banana by-products, source of
starch , pectin, and cellulose, source of dietary nutrients and natural bio-colorant in foods. In traditional
medicine, the fruit banana has been used for treatment of diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cancer,
ulcers, diarrhea, urolithiasis, Alzheimer’s and infections.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Banana is one of the famous fruits in the Philippines, the scientific or synonyms of banana are
amok, (amuck), ape, ballistic, berserk, nuclear, balmy, barmy, chiefly in British, bats, batty, barmy,
cranky, bonkers, bedlam .Banana is an indigenous plant of Jamaica in 1894 bananas may be the world’s
oldest cultivated crop. There is evidence that bananas were cultivated in the highland of New Guinea at
least 7,000 years ago and that Musa varieties were being bred and grown in the Mekong Delta area of
southeast Asia as long 10,000 years ago.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

This study will be conducted to determine the acceptability of Improving Ice cream with
Banana plant extract.

Specifically , this aims to attain the following objectives:

1. Determine degree of acceptability of Improving Ice cream with Banana plant extract in terms of:
a. Color
b. Taste
c. Odor

2. Find out the perception of the respondents towards the homemade banana ice cream in terms
of:

a. Color

b. Taste

c. Odor

3. Determine the significant difference flavor among the Improving Ice cream with Banana plant
extract to commercial ice cream in the market.
RATIONALE OF THE STUDY

This study may be very beneficial and fruitful to individual who are financially incapable of
buying low cost priced and nutritious Improving ice cream with Banana Plant extract that are more
expensive because they can have their own home-made Banana ice cream which is less costly since the
banana and other materials needed in the production are very affordable.

In addition, banana is abundant in our surroundings. Through the use of this product, one can
avoid skin irritation and allergies to eat the banana ice cream since it is safe fruit and healthy food.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

The study was conducted in Barangay Campedico, Palapag Norhern Samar, where there is the
abundance of Banana Plant extract. This will make the researcher easy to get and provide the materials
needed. The experiment will be done at Pisngot’s residence where proper guidance and permission to
the owner of the house will be asked. This will, make sure that nobody gets harm while the experiment
is ongoing.

METHODOLOGY

This study will utilize experimental method of research be delimited into one-month experiment.
After the processing and finalization of finished product. It will then be subjected to observation and in
depth-analysis. This will ensure if the analysis is failed or successful.

This study has limitation in terms of methodology and application. The method to be use is
experimental method.

This study will be further limited to ten (10) students randomly selected taken as respondents. The
duration of the experimental investigation will start on September 17, 2019 and will be end on October
17, 2019 including the buying of the ingredients, experimental trials.
