Abstract
Degradation on Parangkusumo Sand Dunes occured by anthropological activities such as increasing land usage for
agricultural, farming, and tourism. In last decade, Parangkusumo Sand Dunes has been shrinking by 17,12% or ±24,16
Ha. Parangkusumo Sand Dunes is located in Prangtritis Village, Kretek District, Bantul Regency, DIY Province,
Indonesia. The research aim is to revitalitate Parangkusumo Sand Dunes through geo-edu-tourism concept on hope
to increasing sustainable development. This research use reference such as geological surface maping,
geomorphological, and social-economic then studio analysis including land usage, social-economic and tourism.
According to studio analysis, this area is suitable for geo-edu-tourism that aimed to create sustainable development.
It supported by several tourism location such as hot spring, geological intrusion, barchan sand dunes, sheikh’s tombs,
and turtle breeding. An important indicator to support this concept is contribution of local resident and tourist of
Parangkusumo Sand Dunes, so it will create synergy to create the concept of geo-edu-tourism.
