I.

Unusual noise comes out from around hydraulic pump (H-4)

1. Failure:
 Unusual sound is heard from around hydraulic pump

2. Probable causes and criteria:

a. Causes: Lowering of hydraulic oil level
Checking: Hydraulic oil level

b. Causes: Defective hydraulic oil

Checking: Check hydraulic oil. Air may be mixed in hydraulic oil

c. Causes: Clogging of hydraulic tank cap

Checking: Check cap. Negative pressure may be generated in hydraulic tank because
of clogged hydraulic tank cap

d. Causes: Clogging of hydraulic tank strainer

Checking: Check strainer. Negative pressure may be generated in suction circuit
because of clogged hydraulic tank strainer

e. Causes: Defective piston pump

Checking: Check Piston pump. Piston pump may have internal defect

II. Work equipment does not move in its single operation (H-9)

1. Failure:
 Boom does not move independently
 Arm does not move independently
 Bucket does not move independently

2. Probable causes and criteria:

a. Causes: Malfunction of PPC valve
Criteria: Be ready with engine stopped, then troubleshoot with engine high idle
Checking:
 Work equipment control lever for condition neutral:
 PPC valve output pressure is 0 MPa (0 kg/cm2)
 Work equipment control lever for condition operation:
 PPC valve output pressure is 2.84 to 3.43 MPa (29 to 35 kg/cm2)
b. Causes: Malfunction of control valve
Checking: Check spool of control valve. Spool of control valve may malfunction

III. Coolant temperature rises too high (overheating) (S-14)

1. Failure:
 Coolant temperature rises too high

2. Probable causes and criteria:

a. Causes: Lack of coolant
Checking:
 Radiator coolant level monitor indicates drop of coolant level
 Coolant is leaking because of cracks in hose or loose clamps

b. Causes: Malfunction of thermostat

Checking:
 Indicates quick temperature rise (look at coolant temperature gauges)
 When operation of thermostat is tested, it does not open at specified
opening temperature

c. Causes: Broken cylinder head or cylinder head gasket

Checking: check coolant. Unusual air bubbles are found in radiator or coolant spurts

d. Causes: Slipping fan belt or worn fan pulley

Checking: Check fan belt and pulley
 Fan belt tension is low
 Radiator shroud and inside of under guard are clogged with dirt or mud
 Fan belt whines under sudden acceleration

e. Causes: Malfunction of water pump

Checking: Checking temperature gauges. Temperature difference between upper and
lower tanks of radiator is large
IV. Oil pressure drops (S-12)

1. Failure:
 Oil pressure drops

2. Probable causes and criteria:

a. Causes: Lack of oil in oil pan
Checking:
 Check oil pressure monitor. Indicates pressure drop at low and high idle
 Oil level in oil pan is low

b. Causes: Worn main hearing

Checking:
 Check oil pressure monitor. Indicates pressure drop at low and high idle
Check oil filter. 1). Metal particles are found in oil drained from oil pan, 2).
Metal particles are found in the removed oil filter, 3).Metal particles are
found in oil filter

c. Causes: Clogged strainer in oil pan

Checking: Inspect oil pan strainer and pipe. Indicates pressure drop at low and high
idle

d. Causes: Clogged or broken pipe in oil pan

Checking:
 Check oil pressure monitor. Indicates pressure drop at low and high idle
 Inspect oil pan strainer and pipe

e. Causes: Defective regulator valve

Checking:
 Check oil pressure monitor. Indicates pressure drop at low and high idle
 Check valve and spring of regulator valve, may fatigued or damaged

f. Causes: Clogged oil filter

Checking:
 Check Oil pressure monitor for indicates low oil pressure
 Check specification of oil. Oil other than specified one is used
 Check oil filter
g. Causes: Leaking, crushed, clogged oil piping
Checking:
 Check lubrication piping system. External lubrication piping is leaking or
crushed
