A Book Review on The Contemporary World: Outcome – Based Module

This textbook entitled “The Contemporary World: Outcome – Based Module” written by
Tumoroh C .Brazalte and Ryan M. Leonardo, published in 2019 by the C & E Publishing , Inc. at
Quezon City. This textbook contains information about globalization and global concerns in the
contemporary world. The text book contains 7 modules and within it there were 15 sections that
discuss several topics pertaining and related to Globalization.

Module 1, it is an introductory about Globalization and discusses the concepts of

Globalization, it also contains 1 section as follow (Brazalte & Leonardo, 2019)

Section 1: Concepts of Globalization (2019, p.2)

Module 2, it tackles about the structures of Globalization which discusses about its
economy, market integration, system and governance. This module is contained with 4 sections
as follows: (Brazalte & Leonardo, 2019)

Section 1: The Global Economy

Section 2: Market Integration
Section 3: The Global Interstate System
Section 4: Contemporary Global Governance (2019, pp. 16-55)

Module 3, it is all about the world regions where in it tackles about the division of north
and south and about Asians. In this 3rd module it only contains 2 sections respectively are the

Section 2: Asian Regionalism (2019, pp. 68-79)

Module 4, in this 4th module discusses about the ideas of Globalization around the world
which is contained information about the cultures and media and religion. This module has 2
sections under it are the following: (Brazalte & Leonardo, 2019)

Section 1: Global Culture and Media

Section 2: The Globalization of Religion (2019, pp. 94-105)
 Module 5, it tackles about the Global population and mobility. Wherein, in this module
discusses information about the Global City, about its demography and migration. This module
contains 3 sections: (Brazalte & Leonardo, 2019)

Section 2: Global Demography
Section 3: Global Migration (2019, pp.118-148)

Module 6, in this module it talks about how the world will be sustainable. In this module
there is a section that tackles about on how we can develop the world. This module contains 2
sections and these are the following: (Brazalte & Leonardo, 2019)

Section 1: Sustainable Development

Section 2: Food Security (2019, pp. 154-165)

Module 7, in this last module of the book; talks about the Global Citizenship and
discusses the broad concepts of citizenship. This module contains 1 section: (Brazalte &
Leonardo, 2019)

Section 1: Global Citizenship (2019, pp.176-184)

To sum it up, this book discusses about the world Globalization. It talks about the
concerns on our world that needs an effort. This book exposes several issues and discusses those
issues. Based on the information of this book, it teaches the readers to have knowledge and be
well informed about Globalization.

A Book Review on The Contemporary World: Outcome – Based Module

This textbook entitled “The Contemporary World: Outcome – Based Module” written by
Lisandro E. Claudio and Patricio N. Abinales, published in 2018 by the C & E Publishing , Inc.
at Quezon City. This textbook contains information about globalization and global concerns in
the contemporary world. Also, focuses in ideas and development of the contemporary world. The
text book contains 3 units with 11 lessons and within it there were sub-lessons and conclusions
within each lesson that discuss several topics pertaining and related to Globalization.

In Unit 1, it is entitled “The Structure of Globalization”. In this unit it tackles about the
structures of what globalization is. Where in it has Lessons under it that talks about what is
globalization is all about. Also, about the Globalization that affects the world economy. Lastly,
the history of Global politics, that creates an international order.

Lesson 1, it is entitled “What is Globalization?” In this lesson, it focuses about the

meaning of globalization. About the experiences, descriptions and definitions of what
globalization are. Also, at the end of the lesson; there is a conclusion section where in it
summarizes the topic and the lesson that tackles about the globalization. These are the following

Lesson 2, it is entitled “The Globalization of World Economics”. In this lesson it focuses

in the economic purposes that greatly affect the globalization. In this lesson there were various
sub-topics that focus in different parts of the globalizations that pertain to economy. These are

In Unit 2, it is entitled “A World of Ideas: Cultures of Globalization”. In this unit it

focuses now on the culture side of the globalization. It tackles about how does the culture affects
globalization that is happening in the contemporary world. There were several lessons that is
under this unit wherein, emphasizes that cultures has also purpose in globalization. Lastly, there
is conclusion in every lesson that concludes and sum up the topics under the lessons.
 Lesson 6, it is entitled “The Globalization of Religion”. In this lesson, it talks about how
religion affects the globalization. It may sometimes support or also against the globalization.

which help the readers to understand more about the lesson.

wherein may also affect the globalization that happen in our world. These are the following sub-

As a conclusion, this text book helps the reader to be eye widen about the benefits and
some issues of the globalization. Also, this book contains so much information that will help us
readers to understand globalization is. And it is very helpful for us student to know and be
knowledgeable about the contemporary world that we are living on.
