DAWAN Determined Elaboration :She is --------- to face all the challenges to further her study in the city.
Evidence 1 : She walks 3km to Noi’s house with her mother to find out about studying in the
city
Noi discourages her that no matter how hard she tries,she cannot change anything in the
village but Dawan is determined to try and see for herself the “ugly and cruel” thins that
Noi and Ghan tell her.
Evidence 2 :convinces her father to let her go to the city.
Her father thinks that education will not be useful to her because she is a girl. She tells her
father to be kind and fair to her like he is to her brother,Kwai. She pleads him to give her a
chance and believe in her dreams. Eventually,her father relents and lets her go.

and thoughtful Evidence 1 : After fighting with Kwai at the market place,Dawan goes to the bridge to
calm herself.She sees her brother sitting in the thunderstorm and is worried that he will
catch a cold.She advices him to go home.He refuses,so she thrusts her umbrella into his
hand and starts limping home with painful difficulty.

difficult and dangerous for her to pick the lotus buds herself in the klong.

dominate the class.She says that teacher likes Kwai more as he talks for hours after class to
him about topics like injustice and poverty.

stammers to even tell him that she has won the scholarship.Her grandmother would
always calm her down and giver her confidence to be brave.
