ABSTRACT
In this paper, the authors explore about ceramic cutting tools. Ceramic materials
play an important role in the world around us. Many industries utilize ceramics for both
industrial and consumer products. Some example for ceramics that can be found in the
home are fiber glass, insulation, TV screens and glass article of all kind as well as coffee
mugs, dinner place settings and decorative knickknacks. The advent of ceramic cutting
tools with superior strength, toughness, wear and thermal shock resistance has resulted in
considerable increase in productivity, lower production cost and improved workpiece
quality. It is inevitable that these tools will find an increasing use and dominate the
market. The ceramic tools can offer increased metal removal rates, extended tool life and
ability to machine hard workpiece materials. This paper reviews some of the past and
current development of ceramic cutting tools and its manufacturing and properties.
