MLA Formatting

MLA formatting, a writing format that the majority of students have been using since

middle school (if they were born in the 90’s like me). MLA stands for Modern Language

Association, and it is used when writing essays and research papers. It has specific formatting for

spacing, headers, titles, margins, page numbers and referencing.

Using MLA can be a daunting task if you don’t use it often enough. I seem to always

look up the correct formatting every time I need to write a paper in MLA formatting. As I look

up the correct formatting I will either use resources from prior classes, or do an internet search. If

I am citing in MLA format I sometimes us a site called EasyBib , or the reference formatting

editor on Word, which allows you to enter the information of the source and helps you to format

it in the style you need.

Task 6,7,8,9: Creating Class Documents

Hello Lifetime Sports Students and Parents!

It has been a great start to a new year of classes so far! I have a couple of
announcements and some information I’d like to share with you, so we can all
continue on this great path.

Next week starts Paddle Sports and Water Safety! This is a fun new lesson we are
excited to offer with the help of Idaho Parks and Recreation Boating Safety
Program.
This course will start in the classroom learning the basics of paddle craft and water
safety. The students will be given a course book and we will have a guest lecturer
along with Ada County Sheriff’s office teaching the material. This portion will take 3
class periods; once the in-class portion is complete, students will test their knowledge
with a quiz. If students pass, they will be invited to our field day.

Next comes our announcement:

We will be holding a Paddle Sports
Water Safety Field Day
– September 4th & 5th 9:30am – 1:30pm-
-Lucky Peak State Park Marina-

The Field Day will allow the students to put their new knowledge of paddle sports
safety and how-to, to the test. Students will be broken up into two different days, the
first group will go on the 4th and the second will go on the 5th. It is not a requirement
that students go, however, if students choose not to attend our field day, the student
will be assigned a short paper about paddle sports and water safety.
Idaho Parks and Recreation will be providing canoes, kayaks and paddleboards for
students to use, and Ada County Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputies will also be
present to offer boat rides.
This is a great opportunity for students to try something new, and learn a new
lifetime skill!

Task 10 – Creating a Lesson Plan in Word
Lesson Plan Format
Subject: Physical Education/Lifetime Sports
Unit: Valuing a Physically Active Lifestyle
Lesson: Fitness for Life
Knowledge of Resources
Materials Needed  Activity journal and pencil to track daily activity and take notes on 2 things
they learned and any achievements/PR’s
 Mind’s and bodies ready to learn. Open mind to new hobbies and skills
Stage 1: Identify Desired Results
Consider goals, content standards, and curriculum expectations
Setting Student Learning Outcomes

Standard 5: Valuing a Physically Active Lifestyle

Learning Goals/Standards
 Goal 5.1: The physically literate individual participates daily in physical
activity and recognizes its value for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-
expression and/or social interaction.
 Actively and independently, pursue physical activity opportunities
outside of the school based on personal interests, capabilities, and
resources (e.g., outdoor recreational pursuits, fitness club
Learning Targets: Content membership, walking/running club, active transportation) and state
rationale for physical activity choices.
What do you want your students to know
and do in content areas?
 Analyze factors that influence personal physical activity patterns over
one’s lifespan (e.g., reflect on volunteer efforts with populations of
various ages and abilities, create a personal profile/ family physical
activity tree, create personal activity pyramid).
 Enjoy the challenge of working hard and feel satisfaction when they
are successful in improving skills and developing personal goals (e.g.,
journaling reflections)
*Information in desired results acquired from: https://www.sde.idaho.gov/academic/shared/pe/ICS-PE.pdf

Stage 2: Determine Acceptable Evidence

How will you know if students have achieved your desired results?
Assessing Student Learning Outcomes
Pre-Assessment  Prior to this lesson students will.
How will you know what prior  Students should have experience with:
knowledge your students have  Basic physical activity experience and knowledge of physical movements.
in relation to these learning  Being Mindful of our time, we will complete the above assessment of prior
targets?
knowledge and warm-up activities.
Ongoing assessment  During the lesson we will practice formative, informal assessments:
What might you do during the  Ask our students questions like,‘how's it going?”, “are you confident in your
lesson to monitor student ability to do these skills” or review the students work/activity as I make my
understanding? rounds sporadically.
 The assessment should reflect the skills emphasized in class.

Post Assessment  To check for comprehension, I will use performance assessments.

 Using standardized assessments, the students will be assigned an activity
journal, which they will keep a daily log. This will allow them to record their
activity, any new PR’s they might set, and to see how far they’ve come..
Stage 3: Planning Learning Experiences and Instruction
With identified desired results and appropriate evidence of understanding in mind, fully think through the most
effective instructional activities
Instruction and Learning Activity

Preparing Students for Learning and Knowing Its Purposes

Include students in knowing what I will begin the lesson discussing the importance of have a lifetime activity
they will be doing and why it is and skill set to actively and independently seek out physical activity of any
important (e.g. sort.. I will tell students that having the knowledge and understanding of the
statements/questions/other) importance of lifetime physical activity will lead to a happier, more productive
life. Students will learn that there are many different hobbies and activities
they can participate in to achieve this.
This lesson will help us to be more effective, mindful and thoughtful with our
daily health choices.. Having the ability to make these decision will allow
students to improve skills and develop personal goals.
I can show an understanding of lifetime physical activities by giving examples
of these types of activities

I can explain the importance of each and how they can lead to this goal

I can recognize what activities will be important to achieve this

I can show and understanding of physical activity and it’s impact on living a
healthy lifestyle

I can use our activity to demonstrate these statements
