Date: November 6, 2019

1) The load flow studies are conducted by N-R method. Find the size of the Jacobian matrix for the
following cases:
(i) The power system network is having 20 buses.
(ii) The power system network is having 20 buses out of which there are 5 generator buses.
(iii) The power system network is having 15 buses out of which there are 3 generator buses.
(iv) The power system network is having 20 buses out of which there are 5 generator buses. Two of
them are having a reactive power constraint and they become divergent in the 1st iteration.
(v) The power system network is having 12 buses out of which there are 3 voltage controlled buses.
(vi)The power system network is having 30 buses out of which there are 6 generator buses and 3
reactive power support buses.
(vii)The power system network is having 300 buses out of which there are 20 generator
buses, 25 reactive power support and 15 shunt inductor buses.

2) The Y bus (pu values) of a 3 bus system along with is given as follows. Relevant power and
voltage values are also given.

The reactive power at bus 2 is specified as 0 ≤ Q2 ≤ 0.35 pu at a voltage of 1.04 pu. Find the load
flow solution using NR method (first iteration)

3) For the above problem, the reactive power at bus 2 is specified as -15 ≤ Q2 ≤ 15 pu at a voltage
of 1.04 pu. Find the load flow solution using NR method (first iteration)

4) Consider the three bus system shown in the figure below. Each of the three line has a series
impedance of 0.02 + j0.08 pu and a total shunt admittance of j0.02 pu. The specified quantities at
different buses as tabulated as follows:
Controllable reactive power source is available at bus 3 with the constraint 0 < QG3 < 1.5 pu. Solve
load flow using NR method (first iteration).
