1 b) For the power system shown in figure, build YBus matrix using singular
transformation method. The branch
impedances of the lines are as follows:

Line Impedances (Ω)

1–2 15 + j40
1–4 30 + j50
2–3 15 + j25
2–4 45 + j20
3–4 20 + j30

1 c) Draw an impedance diagram for the electric power system shown in Fig, showing all
impedances in per unit on a 100 MVA base. The three phase power and line-line
ratings are

T1: 50MVA, 22/220kV, Xp.u=0.10

T2: 40MVA, 220/11kV, Xp.u=0.06
T3: 50MVA, 22/110kV, Xp.u=0.064
T2: 40MVA, 110/11kV, Xp.u=0.08
Line1: 48.4 Ω
Line2: 65.43 Ω

Solution:
2 c) i) A synchronous generator and a synchronous motor each rated 20 MVA, 12.66
KV having 15% sub-transient reactance are connected through transformers and a
line as shown in the figure. The transformers are rated at 20 MVA, 12.66/66 KV
and 66/12.66 KV with leakage reactance of 10% each. The line has a reactance of
8% on a base of 20 MVA, 66 KV. The motor is drawing 10MW at 0.8 leading
power factor and a terminal voltage 11KV when a symmetrical three phase fault
occurs at the motor terminals. Determine the generator and motor currents. Also
find the fault current.

ii) A 50 MVA, 11KV, synchronous generator has a subtransient reactance of 20%.
The generator supplies two motors over a transmission line with transformers at
both ends as shown in thw figure. The motors have rated inputs 30 and 15 MVA,
both 10 KV, with 25% subtransient reactance. The three phase transformers are
both rated 60 MVA, 10.8/121 KV, with leakage reactance of 10% each. Assume
zero sequence reactances for the generator and motors of 6% each. Current
limiting reactors of 2.5 ohms each are connected in the neutral of the generator and
motor No.2. the zero reactance of the line is 300 ohms. The series reactance of the
line is 100ohms. Draw the positive, negative and zero sequence networks.
Solution:

3 c) i) Single line diagram of 3 bus power system is shown. Datas are provided in
the table below.

a) Using G-S method, determine the

phasor voltage at the buses 2 & 3.
(perform one iteration)
b) Find the slack bus real and reactive
power after first iteration.
Solution:
P1 = 3.84 pu = 384MW
Q1 = 1.9786 pu = 197.86 MVAr
(OR)

ii) The given figure shows the one-line diagram of a simple three-bus power system
with generation at bus 1. The voltage at bus 1 is V1 = 1+j0 pu. The scheduled loads
on the bus 2 are marked on diagram along with voltage and real power for bus 3.
Line admittances are marked in per unit on a 100 MVA base. Line resistances and
line charging susceptances are neglected for the simpler calculation. Using Newton-
Raphson method determine the values of unknown parameters.

Jacobian matrix =

δ2 = 1.5782
δ3 = -6.1790
V3 = 0.9231pu

4. b) A 400 MVA synchronous machine has H1 = 4.6 MJ/MVA and a 1200 MVA
machine has H2 = 3.0 MJ/MVA. The two machines operate in parallel in a power
plant. Find out Heq, relative to a 100 MVA base.
Solution:
KE1 = 1840 MJ
KE2 = 3600 MJ
Heq = 54.4 MJ/MVA.
