From The Teachers
As the weather continues to cool, please
make sure your child has appropriate clothing to go
outside each day. The PTO has offered to help
supply winter gear for kids that could use some.
Just let your classroom teacher or office staff know
if your child could use some winter gear.
Snacks are needed. Many children are
requesting snacks each day. If you are able to do
so, please send your child with a snack each day.
If you ever have extra fruits or veggies, please send
these in help provide extra snack for other kids.
While some students need a snack, others claim
they do not have one because there are non-
perishable snacks that the school has on hand that
are preferable to the one many students have
brought. It is impossible to figure out who really
needs snack and who doesn’t. Having healthier
options regularly on hand helps us to ensure all kids
have access to a snack daily without alternate
issues.

Social Studies/Science
We are wrapping up our geography unit
this week by reviewing the skills we have learned
so far. We will also take a virtual tour of another
country and use our geography skills to investigate
that country.
The kids are wrapping up investigative
work with sedimentary rocks. Some kids are
excited and bringing in rock samples from home.
Math
This week we will begin our unit on long
division. Many kids are initially intimidated by this
concept but get comfortable with it after a little
practice.
Helping your child practice his/her
multiplication facts and reinforcing that it takes
awhile to get the hang of it would be helpful.
Reading
We are on unit 2, week 4 of our Reading
Street reading program. Students will be reading
Horse Heroes: True Stories of Amazing Horses.
Comprehension instruction will focus on
differentiating between facts and opinions as well
as reviewing main ideas and details.
Spelling words missed on last week’s test
will continue to appear until they are mastered.
Individualized spelling lists come home on
Mondays.
Writing
The kids continue to work on writing out
their novels and are connecting the pieces of their
stories together. Students will be using word
processing as a method for making efficient
revisions and edits in their novels.
