Full day school in general is a school program that organizes the learning

process at the school at the school for a full day. In Indonesia, school that use a full
day school model are generally religious and International school. Based on the
article “The Emergence of Early Superior School” 2007, a full day school is a model
of a public school that combines an intensive system of Islamic teaching is to give
an extra special time for the deepening of religious students. Generally, schools that
provide education full day school begins 07:00 until 16:00. Minister of Education
and Culture of Indonesia, Muhadjir Effendy believes that giving additional time to
study at school is better than letting the children’s to be alone at home while their
parents are busy at their works. Even though, full day school has benefits, it also
has a disadvantages.

In full day school students will be required to choose one extracurricular

or noncurricular at school. That way, students can choose the activities they like to
further enhance their academic and non-academic abilities. But actually, this can
make students stressed and bored, with a full day school learning system requires
good physical, psychological, and intellectual readiness. The schedule of solid
learning activities and the application of consistent sanctions within certain limits
will cause students to become bored and they are also ordinary people, not machines
that can be turned on to produce something every day. In a study, our brain capacity
can only learn for about 3 hours and have to rest for at least 15 minutes to learn
again.

Students understanding of the subject matter will be more in-depth, so it

can reduce the risk of students not going up the class or lagging in understanding
material and also students have plenty of time to explore their talents and abilities
through practical lessons. Despite the fact that, not all schools in Indonesia deserve
to implement a full day school. The main cause is not the uniform quality of the
school’s physical buildings and supporting facilities. In Indonesia, many schools
are not facilitated and it is difficult for school to implement the program. It would
be better, the government can be maximizing the educational facilities and
infrastructure in Indonesia. After that, then think about full day school.

Giving additional time to study at school is better than letting students to

be alone at home since their parents are busy at work, and also students can finish
their school assignments until they are taken home by their parents. But, many
parents do not approve this kind of program of school due to the believe that
children need time to take a nap as it is good for children health and also students
are easily bored when they in school from morning until afternoon. If students have
more time in school too long, it forces themselves to concentrate for long time and
maybe they will lose their interest with their study.

In conclusion, full day school is still not sufficient to be applied in

Indonesia, because of many schools are not facilitated and it is difficult for school
to implement the program. It would be better, the government can be maximizing
the educational facilities and infrastructure in Indonesia. And also the schedule of
solid learning activities and the application of consistent sanctions within certain
limits will cause students to become bored and they are also ordinary people, not
machines that can be turned on to produce something every day.
