A STUDY ON RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AMD RYZEN AND INTEL COREI7

PROCESSOR AND PROCESSING TIME

CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM

In the personal computer central processing unit (PC CPU1) market, two firms -
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Intel Corporation (INTEL) capture more than 95%
of the market, with INTEL capturing more than 75% of the market.

The Threadripper 2990WX is built in a quad-die layout, an effective two dual-die

Threadripper 2950X processor in one multi-chip module. Unfortunately, AMD's ZEN+
architecture doesn't allow all four dies to communicate directly with memory controllers,
which limits the performance of the second half of the processor on certain memory-
intensive, which increases the clock speed of the CPU when extra performance is
warranted.

Although many core processors offer higher performance through increased number of
simpler processing cores with Similar programming effort as that required by multicore
ones, they are only Efficient on compute intensive data-parallel applications and have
yet to overcome several other limitations to become a viable solution for these specific.

1.The term multicore processors refers to the new technology trend that integrates
several general purpose processor cores into a single die, sharing part of the cache
hierarchy usually at level 2 or 3 depending on the actual implementation.

2. The term many core processors refers to chips with hundreds of simple processing
cores inside a single die. These cores are often grouped into small cluster that may
share a local memory hierarchy and are all connected though the global memory
system and specialized interconnects fabrics.

Ryzen Threadripper 2950X. AMD limits the maximum boost clock to 4.2GHz on the
2990WX, which is 200MHz slower than the top speed of 16 core 2950WX.

On the other hand, the Core i7 will typically be better for multitasking, media
editing and -creation tasks, high-end gaming, and similar demanding
workloads. Often, though, the price difference will be small, so it is worth
playing around with the online configurator of whatever PC you are buying to
see if you can afford a Core i7-powered machine .

Definition of Terms

AMD is the second-largest supplier and only significant rival to Intel in the market
for x86-based microprocessors. Since acquiring ATI in 2006, AMD and this competitor
Nvidia have maintained a duopoly in the discrete graphics processing unit (GPU)
market.

Intel is the world's largest manufacturer of PC microprocessors and the holder of

the x86 processor architecture patent.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The development of alternative methods that better reflect the quantitative relationship
between power consumption and thermal envelope at the system level and better.
optimize the use of deployed power capacity in the data center. Current AMD and Intel
processors employ different techniques for processor-level power management (AMD
2008; Intel 2009).

In general, those techniques take advantage of the fact that reducing switching activity
within the processor lowers energy consumption, and that application performance can
be adjusted to utilize otherwise idle time slacks on the processor for energy savings
(Contreras and Martonosi 2005).

Core i7 900-series CPUs will only increase their multipliers to a maximum of two
additional steps according to system demands (effectively taking a 3.33-GHz
processor to 3.6-GHz depending on how many cores are in use. Core i7 Extreme
processors have six or eight cores. (sep. 7,2009).

The Ryzen 1950X, was Released in August 2017 and comprises 16 cores at a TDP of
180 W. Its base frequency of 3.4 GHz is close to the 3.5 GHz of its 12-core sibling, the
Ryzen 1920X. The Ryzen 1950X measures in at about 72×55 mm, with a core size of
11 mm 2 , whereas the Core i9 7980XE measures in at about 53×45 mm, with a core
size of 17 mm 2 . AMD’s current flagship high-end desktop CPU.

thus manages to attain a substantially lower power density than Intel’s offering, while
both are built using the 14 nm FinFET process. Intel still outperforms AMD in most
benchmarks, although at a much worse price-performance ratio. Heterogeneity is
becoming an increasingly larger factor in CPU microarchitectures, with both AMD and
Intel frequently updating their turbo boost feature sets. The high-end 16-to-18-core
desktop CPUs

Currently offered by AMD and Intel, as well as Intel’s Knights Landing architecture, are
prime examples of the direction CPU microarchitecture design is heading.

If you wanted to buy, say, a 6-core Sky lake CPU such as Intel’s Core i7-6800K, you
had to buy an LGA2011 V3-based motherboard. With X299 and LGA2066, you can now
pick your poison, because the platform encompasses everything from a 4-core Core i5
Kaby Lake CPU to an 18-core Core i9 Extreme Edition, which is a Sky Lake CPU. For
clarity’s sake, the Kaby Lake CPUs, also called Kaby Lake-X, are the Core i5-7640X
and the Core i7-7740X. The rest of the Core i7 and Core i9 CPUs are Sky lake,
collectively called Sky lake-X. (Gordon Mah Ung, 2017)

It features

Either 64, 68 or 72 quad-threaded Intel Atom cores at a TDP of 215-260 W. The 72-core
microarchitecture runs at 1.5 GHz base clock frequency and is actually comprised of 76
cores, of which four are inactive. for two-core workloads, all models can boost to a turbo
frequency, which adds 200 MHz to their base frequency. Workloads of three cores and
over can only achieve a boost of 100 MHz and workloads with high-AVX SIMD
instructions actually effectuate a frequency reduction of 200 MHz. In addition to the
DDR4 main memory of the system, the KNL host processor has access to its on-board
16 GB of MCDRAM.

SUMMARY AND FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, RECOMMENDATION

SUMMARY AND FINDINGS

The Threadripper 2990WX is built in a quad-die layout, an effective two dual-die

Threadripper 2950X processor in one multi-chip module. Unfortunately, AMD's ZEN+
architecture doesn't allow all four dies to communicate directly with memory controllers,

playing around with the online configurator of whatever PC you are buying to
see if you can afford a Core i7-powered machine .

The researchers find out that if we are playing online games, it is better to
use AMD Ryzen but if you want to download music and videos, it is better to
use INTEL COREI7.

CONCLUSION

As a result, the researcher find out that is better to use AMD Ryzen if we are
playing online games, updating online games. However, if we want to
download music in our personal computer the researcher suggest that you
must use INTEL COREI7.Because AMD Ryzen has is built in a quad-die layout,
an effective two dual-die Threadripper 2950X processor in one multi-chip module. In
addition, INTEL COREI7. Has eight cores 4.90 GHZ.

RECOMMENDATION
In the future researcher we suggest to replicate this research so that they
will now what processor there going to use.

This study is highly recommended by the researchers for this will be the key for the
authorities to be aware. This study possibly represents the effectiveness of Senior High
School in the new curriculum.
