Eportfolio Career Research: Delaware State Trooper.

With my current degree, I plan to work towards/become a Delaware State Police Officer.

The Delaware State police have always played an active role in the community since I was little

and I have had many interactions with Troopers. They have all been true, hard working and over-

all good people and Officers. “To perform the duties of State Trooper, an applicant must

demonstrate good judgment, thoroughness, conscientiousness, common sense, motivation, and

enthusiasm for the job. Troopers must be dependable and willing to get involved in order to help

deal with the problems of today’s society. Troopers must be able to assume responsibility, make

decisions often under pressure, work without supervision, follow orders, function in physical

danger, act under pressure, communicate well, and combine physical and mental resources”

(Delaware State Police). Delaware Police candidates must be at least 21 by the time of entry into

the academy and no older than 39. Applicants can not have any felonies under Federal or State

Law and must have all criminal activities expunged. They must meet height, vision, and weight

requirements. Applicants must be a US citizen and a Delaware Citizen by the completion of the

Academy. After an offer of employment, applicants will then be given a medical exam ensuring

they can complete all job functions. Salary is competitive and rank is dependent on the amount

of education you have. To reach Sergeant you must have 30 college credits and to become

Lieutenant you must have 60 college credits.
