Methods:

Preparation

1. Check the functionality of the equipment first.

2. Measure the dimensions of the air duct.
3. Load water into the boiler-condenser setup.
4. Cover the gap between the air duct and electric fan with paper. Make sure to tape shut the
gap so that the air from the fan will be directed to the set-up only.
5. Measure the inlet air speed using an anemometer. Repeat for other fan settings.

Determination of the actual amount of condensate produced

1. Using a match, ignite the burner to start boiling the water.

2. Turn on the fan when water starts to boil. Let steam pass through the condenser tubes.
3. Measure the inlet air, outlet air, condensate temperature, and mass of condensate produced
at 2-minute interval for 10 minutes.

4. Let the tubes cool for five minutes after each 10-minute period.

Determination of the effect of changing air flow rate on the actual heat transfer coefficient
and the amount of condensate produced

1. Vary the fan speed between each 10-minute period. For the first three periods, vary the fan
speed at a descending manner. After the first three periods, vary the fan speed at an
ascending manner.

2. Close the supply of gas to the burner and remove the covering paper.

3. Fill the reservoir.
