LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

Competency:

1. Explain why reproduction, variation and adaptation are necessary for the
survival of species.
Topic: Biodiversity and Evolution
COMPETENCY CODE: S10LT-IIIh-41
I- Objectives
1. Determine how organisms adapt to a certain environment for their survival.
2. Create a flip book about the life of a certain microorganism (how it reproduce
and adapt to a certain environment).
3. Appreciate how organisms reproduced.

II- Subject Matter

Materials
 Fact sheet
 Worksheets

III- Procedure
A. Motivation
 “USE and TUNE ME UP”
The students will be grouped into four (4). Each group will pick one of the
following words below then use and tune it up with their favourite song.
Evolution
Reproduction
Adaptation
Variation
1. Activity
A. Worksheet No. 1: “Four Clues, One Answer” (See Attached
Worksheet)
Note: Printed worksheets will be distributed to the students
2. Analysis/Discussion
A. How important reproduction is?
B. How does variation of organisms and environmental changes help them to
adapt and survive on a certain environment?
C. Why is it reproduction, adaptation and variation necessary for the survival of
the species?
3. Abstraction
 Organisms inhabiting the Earth have changed overtime, their structures, traits
and abilities allowed them to adapt and survive in their environment. .
 Organism that is adapted and has structures fitted to survive in a given
environment would likely produce offspring.
 Organisms with the best and desirable traits would likely adapt to environmental
change.
4. Application
A. Worksheet 2: “All About Me ” (See Attached Worksheet)
5. Evaluation
 The students will create a flip book about the life of a certain organism
(how it reproduce and adapt to a certain environment).

FACT SHEET NO.1

 Evolution refers to the theoretical process by which all species develop from
earlier forms of life. According to this theory, natural variation in the genetic
material of a population favors reproduction by some individuals more than
others, so that over the generations all members of the population come to
possess the favourable traits.
 Reproduction refers to the production of offspring or new individuals through
sexual or asexual .
Two types of Reproduction
1. Sexual Reproduction- reproduction that involves the union of male and
female gametes, each contributing half of the genetic makeup of the
resulting zygote.
2. Asexual Reproduction- refers to the formation of new individuals without
involving sex cells.
 Adaptation is the ability of the organisms to adjust and thrive in a given
environment. Organism that is adapted and has structures fitted to survive in a
given environment would likely produce offsprings.
 Variation refers to differences in traits of organisms in population. It increases
the chance of survival of living A process Common among
