Grade 10 Activity Sheet on Chemical Reaction

Activity: 6”Simple Reaction”

Objectives:
1. Identify the type of chemical reaction in the given activity;
2. Write the complete chemical reaction equation; and
3. Identify the evidence/s that chemical reaction has occurred.

Materials
-Sodium bicarbonate
- 0.1 M hydrochloric acid
- Test tubes
- Wash bottle

Procedure

1. Prepare the 0.1M HCl solution and the test tube with sodium
bicarbonate (NaHCO3). Transfer a small amount of the sodium
bicarbonate to an empty test tube.
2. Add 0.1 M HCl to the sodium bicarbonate powder until you half-
filled the test tube.

Guide Questions

1. What type of chemical reaction happened when sodium bicarbonate

(NaHCO3) is added to hydrochloric (HCl) solution?
2. What are the reactants and products of this chemical reaction?
3. What is the complete chemical equation of this reaction?
4. What is the evidence that a chemical reaction happened?
