 Know the difference between healthy and unhealthy.
Key Vocabulary:
 Fruit: the product of a tree or plant that contains seeds and can be eaten (ex: apples,
oranges, peaches)
 Grain: any food made from wheat, rice, oats, cornmeal, barley, or another cereal grain
(ex: bread, pasta)

much of each food we should consume
Content/Facts:
 There are 5 different food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy. There
are certain amounts of each food group that you should be consuming each day. Half of
your plate should consist of fruits and vegetables, with slightly more vegetables being
consumed. The other half should consist of grains and protein, with slightly more
grains being consumed. About 2 to 3 cups of dairy should be consumed each day.
 Students will sort different foods into the appropriate food group using the MyPlate
template provided.
 At the end of the lesson, students will participate in a Kahoot game to win a prize.

Introduction/Activating/Launch Strategies:
 I will begin by asking the class what some of their favorite foods are.
 After listening to their answers I will tell them that we will be learning about the food
pyramid today (MyPlate) and what types of foods we should be consuming on a daily
basis.
 I will introduce the topic by playing this video:
