9th - 12th The Academy for Global Studies (AGS): ​Academics


● At AGS, I am taught to look at the world through a global perspective. This meant traveling
worldwide to Heifer International (Arkansas), & Costa Rica, & Thailand (January). It also meant
that we did individual & group projects focusing on improving the world around us. We made
urban gardens to reduce “food deserts,” hosted a low-cost clothing store to help reduce poverty,
& taught middle schoolers about hardships occurring in Rwanda, Africa. AGS has shaped my
high school experience & has taught me things I will bring with me after high school.

12th Tarrytown Dance Assistant Teacher ​(1 hr/wk)
● Assistant teacher for 16 five-year old dancers (ballet, tap, jazz)

12th Guatemala Mission Trip (23 total hrs)
● Travel to Guatemala with my church though the Highland Support Project & AMA
(both support women in Mayan communities)
● Built stoves for two different families so that the women of the house would not have
so much smoke in their lungs & instead of cooking all day, they could spend their
time on other things like weaving, joining women's circles, & watching after their kids.
● Planted trees to offset the smoke from the stoves we built.
● We situated trees on the side of a mountain to prevent landslides from occurring
● Visited elementary schools; taught art projects with the students

11th Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (14 total hrs)


● Team member in a seven-week competition to raise awareness & money for
the mission of curing blood cancer

9th, 10th, 12th The Academy for Global Studies (AGS): ​Service Work (19 total hrs)
● 10th: Think Globally, Plan Locally, Act Neighborly (TGPLAN).
○ In Costa Rica, we were assigned poverty as a topic.
○ We took action at home by creating a low-cost store.
○ Collected donations from Buffalo Exchange & Half Price Books.
■ Patrons were able to choose where they wanted to donate.
■ We gave them options: Mobile, Loaves, & Fishes, Habitat for Humanities, &
Capital of Texas Food Bank (all nonprofits working to fight poverty in Austin)
● 9th: Heifer International in Arkansas is a global nonprofit organization, working
to end poverty. ​While at Heifer, I was in the Global Village of “Guatemala.”
● Molded & baked bricks, painted one of the houses, cleaned up a garden, &, my
favorite, milked a goat

10th, 11th Running Deer Program (30 total hrs)


● During Camp Huawni, we unloaded & helped campers set up their belongings
on the first day.
● Cleaned up & Set up after night activities & loaded trunks on the last day of camp

10th, 11th Sisters in Service (36 hrs total)


● A big/little sister program between high school girls & fourth-grade girls
● Mentor 2 fourth-graders through service & activities
