complex systems or facilitate problem solving

RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.
Evernote is a note taking website and computer application that students could potentially use to help digitize and organize
their notes for class content. Evernote acts very similarly to word as far as formatting and note- taking is concerned. Students
are able to make several notebooks in Evernote to organize separate notebooks for different classes (no more “I forgot my
notebook!” or accidentally taking notes in a different subject notebook). This app and website (also available on phones) give
students the ability to have their notes with them wherever they go. This is particularly helpful to students who are given
chrome books or other modes of technology at the beginning of the school year.

INTEGRATION IDEA - PORTFOLIOS

How might you use this resource in a lesson plan to promote student-centered learning?
I would personally use this resource in a lesson plan as a way to take notes. I think that students would like to be able to take
all their notes online (long term it may even save them money, so they are not trying to foot a bill for school supplies every
semester/ year). I would personally use it as well to model the formatting necessary for the class and age level in addition to
lecturing/ presenting new material. I would use Evernote strictly in classes that are being introduced new content.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION
 Based on the “value-added rating scale” above, how would you rate the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource?

Based on Evernote, I would rate this a 1.5.

 Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

I would rate Evernote a 1.5 because class is very manageable without it. This tool definitely fits into content standards, serves
as a nice supplement to introduce new material, and it will mostly be used by students, not me. I would personally use it just
to model how I would like them to take notes or to remind me to show them a video/ website that would be helpful or
supplemental to the learning of this new content.

Although a neat application, I would personally not use this in my classroom. Trying to format pictures in here is very hard and
it’s tough to move pictures around and format the notes around the pictures. I also don’t like that after a certain amount of
space is used, you have to pay for a subscription to keep using it. What if kids need more space to take more notes? Although it
was nice to be able to link videos to these notes, that is only really helpful to me so I can ensure that I show those specific
videos/ links to my students. I would have like to supply more diagrams/ pictures to simulate this lesson, however, pictures
tend to just stack on top of each other and I cannot drag them where I want them.
