Report of the data using md solid software:

For measuring the deflection using md solid:

First of all to know the deflection of the bridge when we put some load
on it we have to find the elastic modulus for our bridge so we have done
some experiments to do that, we have to present data about stress and
strain ,and present the data as a graph between stress and strain and the
slope of the graph is the elastic modulus

so we need to collect some data about stress and strain , to

𝐹
calculate the stress , stress = 𝐴 so we need to put some load on the
bridge and divide by the area , for measuring the load we put 5 coins of
one dirham and using the balance ( mass of one dirham coin is 6.1 g, so
to calculate the load
6.1
𝐹= 1000
𝑥 𝑛 𝑥 9.81 , n : the number of coins
And for the area, the mass per square meter of the papers that we
used to build the bridge is 80 g/m2 and the mass of our bridge is 28.82 g
so the total area of the bridge is 0.36025 m2
𝛥𝐿
Now for strain data, strain = , the bridge without any load will be
𝐿
like this
when we put some load on the bridge the bridge it will deflect like
this :

so to know 𝛥𝐿 we can calculate it by :

Original length

Deflection
Final length

Final length = 2 ( √𝐷 2 + 0.5 𝑂2 )

D : deflection
O : Original length
And we can calculate the strain after that.
The table of the data :

𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑠
The elastic modulus from the slope = 4608 , 𝐸 =
𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑛
Now after calculating the elastic modulus we can use the mdsolid
to measure the deflection ,

After defining the area of the cross section on md solid software

we can now see the deflection by putting some load
Note : the area of the cross section of our bridge is not quite the
same as I define it in the md solid software , I tried to design the
bridge on the md solid software but I couldn’t do that because
the shapes was limited and simple on this software so at the end I
choose the rectangle shape to define my cross section, there will
be some error in the deflection using md solid software.

Here is an example of putting a load P1 = 0.6 N will deflect the

bridge about 4 mm and if we compare it with our data when we
put a load equal to 0.6 N the deflection was about 6 mm , this
error because of what I said above.
Another example , one of the requirement of the bridge is to see
how much load it will take for the bridge to reach 2 cm deflection
and we tried that and it deflects about 2 cm when we we put 50
6.1
coins which is weighting about 3 N using 𝐹 = 1000
𝑥 𝑛 𝑥 9.81
Using md solid :

Here P1 = 3 N , and the deflection is about 20.34 mm which is

about 2.034 cm
