From my start of the year expectations to what I learnt from
my practicum. What is my teacher’s stance now? At first, I had many doubts about teaching, I felt really insecure about it , I kept thinking whether if I could teach or not or if I would like teaching or not. So, I had many expectations and questions about the subject, and as I was learning throughout the year, I discovered that I love teaching, planning and giving what’s best for me and my students too. Also being in front of a class taught me a lot about teacher’s stance and it made me feel passionate about our profession. 🤗🤗 Secondly, I could reflect about Classroom Management (Brewster, Jean, Ellis, G. & Girard) (2002) and I discovered that motivation plays a fundamental for both students and teachers. Most importantly, teachers have a huge impact on students’ life, we are not just knowledge providers but also, we teach students about values. When Lucila and I introduced Code of conduct, I became conscious about how important is to make emphasis on teaching values too (cooperation, sharing, listening, respecting). Moreover, as teachers we decide about what view of the world we will share to our students (selecting what to teach and how we will teach it is a very powerful tool) Thirdly, I felt as a teacher that I had to fulfil many roles at once (something what I thought of impossible at first 😂). According to Harmer, teachers play a variety of roles such as organizer, prompter, participant, controller, etc. In my classes, I could be an organizer when I stated what we were going to do in every lesson (routines, activities, setting an and to a class) also I could work as a prompter for students to speak in English, that happened to me when students were performing their Bedroom project. All in all, after all the experience I gain inside the class I can achieve different roles all at once, something that is completely incredible! Fourthly, I reckoned the importance of tracking student’s prior knowledge and build upon what students have learned, this is what Bruner called Scaffolding. Furthermore, it is vital to set a routine and have activities previously planned before teaching a lesson, this will not only facilitate teachers but also, planning demonstrate their hard work which students really appreciate that. In addition, my partner and I decided to use non- traditional forms of assessment which were really engaging for us and students (My Bedroom project and Pete the Cat were amazing activities, yet memorable and cheerful, those activities will be forever in our hearts! 💝💚💛) To conclude, not only I’ve overcome my fear about teaching but also, I gain passion and love about what I do. And after all the experience I’ve acquired during this year, I’m sure I can start to teach at primary schools. Finally, I’m happy to say that both you Vanesa UNLPAM SUBJECT: PRACTICE TWO DIEGO FRANCSCO
and Estela gave me all the reasons why to become a teacher and I will be forever thankful that you taught us about the importance of our profession.
