Sukhdeep Kaur, aged fifty-two years old, a resident of Staff Colony in her reminisce of hopeless

and painful disability of her nephew due to snake-bite. Mrs. Kaur while sharing her story stated
that her nephew Ramandeep Singh was 9 years old, when a snake had bitten him. He was
playing in the fields along with his friends, who could neither help him nor could bring any help
immediately because of mishap, confusion and unawareness.
Ramandeep is one of 1,500 to 50,000 annual casualty and disability cases of snakebites in India.
Though the number is much larger than recorded by medical officials because many people
could not even manage to get medical help as rural areas are more prone to snakebites.
Even after the tragic case of disability people like Sukhdeep Kaur did not know what to do at the
time of snakebite. They still believe that binding the bitten part tightly with any rope or cloth is
the best first aid. Neither they knew about any helpline number to call for help and guidance in
such mishap. When the SSC102: Community Development Student told her about the helpline
numbers especially about 112; to which one can call in all possible mishappening for quickest
response, she was thrilled and grateful.
Discussing the Helpline numbers, students talked to people of different walks and informed as

which are as follows-

Diu, Jammu and Nagaland.

112 is an all around perceived single crisis number, embraced by the greater part of European
nations, ward countries and mapped to crisis numbers in USA and Canada. The greater part of

May 2015.

initiated by squeezing force button in progression multiple times in the event of a PDA and the

Generally Police Call centre politely suggests not to interrupt the operations for sake of other
genuine callers and use this facility judiciously, if a considerable number of calls are made to
police control room mistakenly or carelessly, this can be taken as nuisance and appropriate legal
action can be initiated against the caller.
• To see whether the 112 or 101 really works.
• To make a joke when everything is fine.
• When you need general information, such as someone's telephone number or address.
• Because you locked yourself out and can't enter your house anymore
• To order a pizza or cab and other unnecessary, meaningless reasons.
If you call the emergency services without a valid reason, the operators in the emergency centres

different States/UTs don't have to realize all neighbourhood crisis numbers.

have to recollect in India. This is significant on the grounds that individuals stood up to with a
crisis can be focused or even in alarm.
In India your 112 call briefly still lands at an administrator of the assistance focus 112 of the
region where you are. Calls to the number 112 for dire police help are diverted by the
administrator to the Correspondence and Data Focal point of the incorporated police (CIC 101).
Along these lines, important time might be squandered. We in this manner encourage you to
legitimately call the crisis number 101 for earnest police help.

abroad?

emergency centre in the region where you are at that moment. When you do wish to contact an
emergency centre in a region you are not yourself, you can try to do this best through a contact
person (for instance a family member or acquaintance) who is in that region.

nothing out of pocket, yet your region can request a repayment for intercessions that are not
earnest when these are referenced in the guidelines with respect to charges. For additional data,

How might you best request help during a Characteristic Catastrophe?

Possibly consider 112 when a salvage is fundamental or when a life-threatening circumstance is
included. At the point when you call 112, persistently sit tight for an answer. Try not to put the

holding up list.
Safety of women has become one of the very important issues not only in our country but also in
several other parts of the world. The strange thing about India is that it is the country where
women are given the places of various Goddesses and rituals are beings performed in their
honour. But, behind the curtains what we see is crime against women at home, offices, streets,
various institutions, etc. Well, we can not even call it behind the curtains, since all these inhuman
practices against women often happens openly in front of our eyes almost every day.
A study was conducted in 2004 which showed that 60-80% women face some sort of abuse or
violence in their marriage. International Journal of Criminology and Sociological Theory
National Crime Records Bureau found out that the highest rate of crime against women was
recorded in Chennai in 2000, where around 4,037 incidences came to light. Although some
decrease has been seen in crime rate in subsequent years, around 838 by 2013. While talking of
Delhi, the case is quite opposite.
The crime rate against women has spiked up from 17.6/100,000 females in 2000 (2,122
incidents) to 151.13/100,000 females in 2013 (11,449 incidents). According to the various
statistics, it is found that every two out of three women have suffered around two to five times
sexual harassment in the last year. Various surveys point out that women are losing their
confidence in police.
A survey of Delhi government’s Women and Child Development Department suggested that
around 80% of the women in the capital, Delhi have fear regarding their safety. To find the cure
of this problem various government agencies are coming up with new policies. Women cell
department has been created by Government of India to enhance the protection and security of
the women across India and various states.
Every state has formed different women cell departments with a unique women helpline number
to solve the women issues like , physical torture, divorce, sexual harassment, and several other
matters. A helpline number '112' has been launched this year which is joined by twenty states
and union territories for immediate assistance of those in distress or any emergencies.
The '112' helpline is an integration of police (100), fire (101) and women (1090) helpline
numbers and the project comes under the central government's Nirbhaya Fund. In order to access
emergency services, a person can dial '112' on a phone or can press the power button of a smart
phone thrice quickly to send a panic call to the Emergency Response Centre. In case of a normal
phone, a long press of the '5' or '9' key will activate the panic call. Moreover, for women in
distress '1091' is the helpline number that can be useful and if there are domestic abuse issues
then once can dial '181'.

Although several initiatives have been taken by the government including various women
helpline numbers, but the question arises how reliable are they in actual? While conducting our
research we came across the story of a Muslim girl who was found disappeared and some of her
friends claimed that she wanted to marry a Hindu guy, which her parents didn’t allow her. She
even tried to run away but was caught and then beaten and tortured. The police refused to file
their complain saying that they are not her parents or relatives, hence, no action was taken. They
were suggested to go to an NGO, but most of the numbers they tried were not answered. A
helpline number “1298” transferred them to some another NGO saying the same thing.
So, it’s quite evident that still many problems are needed to be tackled and various obstacles to
be eradicated. We have a long journey ahead and together only with the help and support of each
other we can tackle these issues and hopefully create a more safer, secure and better place to live
peacefully for everyone.
