SEMESTER II - DESIGN PROJECT I – LUXURY ECOTEL

INTRODUCTION:-

The design program is to design a Luxury Hotel which is also an Ecotel.

LUXURY HOTEL

In the four-star range, these hotels have higher price tags and deliver design,
quality, spaciousness and excellent services with attention to detail. Guests
have full services, including 24-hour room service, amenities such as spas, a
concierge or even a butler.

Luxury hotels can be in big cities and appeal to both business and leisure
travelers.

Three-Star – These hotels are usually located near a major business center,
express way, and/or shopping area. The rooms are clean and spacious rooms,
and decorative lobbies. An on-site restaurant offers all meals such as breakfast,
lunch, and dinner. The facilities such as valet and room service, fitness center,
and a swimming pool are also available.

Four-Star – These hotels would be large, often standing as a part of a cluster of

similar hotels with a formal appearance and very good services. The hotel
would be located in the prime area of the city around shopping, dining, and
entertainment joints. The guest can expect furnished and clean rooms,
restaurants, room service, valet parking, and a fitness center within the hotel
premises.

ECOTEL

ECOTEL® is an environmental certification that enables hotels to be truly green,

socially responsible, and sustainable over the long term by involving the entire
value chain of owners, architects, operators, employees, suppliers and hotel
guests.
What are the benefits for ECOTEL® Hotels?

1. Lower operating costs, greater profits through a focused effort on reducing

waste generation and increasing operational efficiencies.
2. Enhanced visibility for members through the ECOTEL® website who also gain
access to the reservation engine and other marketing features.
3. Publicly recognized branding for hotels that may have/not have partnered
with international chains.
4. Value for money, as the cost of certification is comparatively lower than
others to enable hotels to truly benefit from the transfer of knowledge.

OBJECTIVE:

Design of building in response to the natural environment, site, it’s

characteristics and the context of responsible luxury.

concerns related to the building services and management systems, vertical
circulation, basement parking, structural grid, firefighting, water supply,
sewage treatment, lifts, garbage and waste disposal, lighting, air-conditioning
etc.

COURSE OUTLINE:-

1. Introduction to building design in the Urban context with limited areas

thereby necessitating multi-storied design and construction.
2. Strength and weaknesses of vertical spatial arrangement of buildings.
3. Co-ordination of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services along
with fire fighting systems.
4. Exposure to Universal design and Disaster management concepts.
