In a society like ours where technology dominated peoples’ lives, everything becomes technology-
based. The natural things are overpowered or shall we say, affected and damaged? If we will notice,
our basic necessities as humans mostly rely on the organic materials of the earth. But what happen
now is that these organic materials are constantly diminishing due to environmentally harmful human
activities. Say, our demand for water is increasing. There are large areas in our country that
struggles for water .Be it as a use in household chores or for daily body consumption. Clean water is
essential for our survival and the world does not have enough of it because we’ve been taking more
than what we need from nature and that, it reached its limit of what it could sustain.

In the past years, people were able to drink water from the brooks or even directly from the faucet
because it is not yet contaminated. But today, drinking tap water is a big no-no. And that explains the
reason why water purifying systems are all over the world. Water is a basic human necessity needed
for survival. But as of now, there is a minimal access to clean water. This is because a large portion
of the fresh water has been contaminated with chemicals from industries and garbage from the
society.

I know that we are all aware that we are contributing to the destruction of our environment. We’ve
been a part of throwing our garbage anywhere, be it in the streets or near water areas. But we
ignore it. Just what is a piece of candy wrapper being thrown in the river? It isn’t a whole garbage pit
that will contaminate the water. That’s our mistake. We lack thorough understanding of what those
small things can actually do in our environment. Usually, those small unhuman acts we often did has
a greater impact in our environment. The sum of its parts is greater than the whole, they say.

Access to a safe and potable water is crucial. Drinking from tap water is not advisable since you may
derive waterborne illnesses such as diarrhea. Children are mostly the victims of this disease. I pity
those poor kids in the urban areas, asking for alms in the street. They do not get enough foods to eat
and pretty sure not even enough water to drink. I just wonder where they got their daily consumption
of water. The pennies in their hands aren’t enough to buy foods how much more with a bottled
water? Maybe they would just resort to drinking tap water instead. Too bad they might get gastro-
intestinal diseases.

The presence of water purifying systems though has become a big help. But, isn’t it ironic to think
that we have water purifying systems because of the fact that we cannot drink water just like before,
and because of the fact that the water that we will drink should undergo purifying processes to
ensure that it is free from bacteria?

It’s quiet depressing to know that we’ve become the primary destroyer of our very own source of life.
We should be the stewards of the natural resources but it turns out that we become the opposite of
it. Such issue is not new to us. We’ve been hearing and seeing it in the national Television,
newspaper and the likes. It’s also upon you and me ignoring this issue and hoping that they will just
go away. But I’ve seen people come together and change things and possibly, we can be like that.
Let it not be just lip service. For the sake of the greater good, let us do something because once it’s
gone, it’s gone for good.
