Students will learn about the famous photographer Sally Mann. Students will
learn about how Sally Mann creates her photographs, the topics she covers, and
what influences her work. Students will do two graphic organizer activities to
help organize they new information they have learned about Sally Mann and
their own thoughts before start their photography excerise. Once students have
finsialzed their graphic organizer students will then create 3 black and white
images inspired by Sally Mann work using the digital cameras in class. The
reason this lesson is important for students is because being able to take
elements or aspects of another artists work and change it around to fit ones own
needs or desires is an important skill for artists to learn. In art there is a big
differences between being inspired by someone's work and copying someone's
work. It is important for students to understand this differecens so that they do
not suffer any long term consequences for copying another artist work.
