Street lighting provides a number of important benefits. It can be used to promote
security in urban areas and to increase the quality of life by artificially extending the
hours in which it is light so that activity can take place. Street lighting also improves
safety for drivers, riders and pedestrians.

II. Project Proposal Proper

A. Introduction and Rationale:

In world now the energy demand increases rapidly so to fulfilling energy demands
more fossil fuels are used which will extinguish if they are used at such a rate. So,
renewable energy is need to be used more and more as they are freely available and
adequate. And also uses of green power reduce pollution and global warming. Solar
energy is nothing but the radiant energy emitted by son. This solar energy is mainly
useful in solar street lights, auto solar irrigation system, traffic junction, signal lighting.
Intelligent lighting, control and energy management system is a perfect solution for
energy saving especially in public lighting management.

B. Project Description:
Street lights are an effective tool in helping provide a safer night driving
environment. Street light is a raised so0urce of light on the edge of a road or path.
Modern lamps may also have light sensitive photo cells that activate automatically when
light is not needed.
 The purpose of providing street lighting is to create a lighted environment which
will contribute to the safe and comfortable movements of vehicle and pedestrians during
the hours of darkness.

C. Objectives:

1. To improve road safety

2. Reduce the incidence of night time crime
3. To improve the perception of street safety and security

D. Significance:

Street light is very important, it can be used to promote security is urban areas and
to increase the quality of life by artificially extending the hours in which it is light so that
activity can take place. Street lighting also improve safety for drivers, and pedestrians.

E. Project Components / Strategies of Implementation

Solar Panel – is one of the most important parts of solar street lights as the solar panel
will convert solar energy into electricity.

Lighting Fixture – LED is usually used as lighting source of modern solar street light, as
the LED will provide much higher lumens with lower energy consumption.

Rechargeable Battery – battery will store the electricity from solar panel during the day
and provide energy to the fixture during night.
 Pole – strong poles are necessary to all street lights, especially to solar street lights as
there are often component, mounted on the top of the pole.
