functional network of drainage systems in the Barangay New Isabela. It shall reduce the risk of
infestation of diseases such as malaria and dengue as well as the heavy traffic in streets caused by
stagnant, grimy canals and overflowing water. The resulting favorable conditions of drainage
systems will encourage the growth of entrepreneurial activities in the Barangay New Isabela.

The construction of lined canal in every streets of Barangay New Isabela is an important
infrastructure intervention necessary to reduce potential risk and hazard caused by flooding. The
canal to be constructed will serve as a catchment of storm/rain water that will eventually flow to
drainage canal in every streets.

Upon the completion of the project, the residents of the community, Barangay Council the owner
of the boarding house and establishments are expected to assist in the maintenance of the canal.

II. PROBLEM ANALYSIS

During heavy rains, storm water in Brgy. New Isabela accumulates which causes the
unclean water and silts enters the residential houses in the area.
BSSW3 I SW 337 – Project Development and Management

The flood in this area during heavy rains is a nuisance for the habitants and the
causes delays and etc. And there is a case that when the ponds near the village
overflows cause by heavy rains, the water from the pond tends to cause flooding
because there’s no drainage between the roads.

This project intends to have an adequate design of storm drainage to prevent the
village from being flooded.

III. PROPOSED RESPONSE TO THE PROBLEM

The implementation of this drainage system is to provide well designed storm water
system for the discharge of rainwater and intends to have an adequate design of
storm drainage to prevent the village from being flooded.

activities during project planning and implementation can encourage sustainability in the realization
of the project.

followed during the construction phase. Maintenance of project after completion will be shouldered
by the City Government through its Economic Development Fund.
With the improvement in the drainage system, it is expected that the community as well as the
Barangay Council will take responsibility in its maintenance.

Project Risks and Mitigation

Lack of budget fund is the common reason that hinders the implementation of the said project.
Furthermore, the disapproval and lack of cooperation of the government as well as the residents of
the said municipality is another thing that hinders the implementation of the project. The
construction of this project is vulnerable due to possible environmental calamities to happen and
due to the present situations on areas along riverside which will extremely affects the cooperation
of Local Government Unit of Tacurong. Money, on the other hand, is a crucial matter to be
considered since this project is pretty much expensive which can hinder its implementation. The
project is expensive but its future effects to the community is worth the investment.

VIII. PROJECT MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Clearing and Grabbing

Clearing and grabbing is the primary thing to be done before starting any
survey on the target area.
Surveying the Target Area
In order to know the elevation of the target area, profile surveying of the area
is to be done and the data gathered is to be plot and to be analyzed.
Excavating the Soil of the Target Route
Excavation is to be done using bulldozer, grader, and other necessary
equipment. The soil is to be excavated within the desired designed elevation .

Compacting of Soil
Prior to installation of materials, soil will be compacted first using
jackhammer.
Installing of Materials
Installation of the materials such as RCPC shall be done in a proper and
careful manner.
Filling of Soil
Soil should be put every 20 centimeter of the excavation height and will be
compacted and the process is to be done continually until the RCPC is
completely covered and compacted.
Leak Testing
Finally, the finished constructed drainage will be subjected to leak testing
to be conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH). If
there’s a leak within then the finished drainage should be reconstructed until
the system will pass the leak test.
