II. Project Rationale and Objectives

Majority of Butuanons knows that the absence of street lights cause many accidents, specifically
during at night. In Brgy. Villa Kananga, most of its roadway are potholed and uneven that can cause
as a primary source of accidents, especially if the rider did not see the road due to the darkness of
the area. Also, the unavailability of street lights may increase the amount of crime to people
walking alone the streets. The criminals find it as an opportunity to harmed people on foot and to do
illegal activities; examples of it are holdups, riding in tandem, pickpocketing, trading of illegal
drugs, vandalism, gang violence, harassments, and many more. This is why our government needs
to pay attention and address these kinds of crimes and find a solution to minimize this kind of acts.

Installing and maintaining street lights is necessary, thus, a great help not only to the residents
but also to those people who passed by during at night. Importance of visibility and clearer
surroundings makes the evening much safer.

III. Project Description

In Butuan City, most of its roads, especially in Brgy. Villa Kananga does not have enough street
lights which risk the safety of an individual and riders. Some of the street lights in Villa Kananga
are either broken or neglected, that until now is irreplaceable and seems to be ignored. They do not
allocate a budget for the maintenance of the street lights that leads to the deterioration of the lights.
That is why this project is important to be approved and agreed by many because this will help
everybody not only by the residents but also by the passers, and help everyone specifically at night.
Clear and bright road can reduce fear, crimes, and risk to each of everyone. This is a very useful
project for everyone as they can benefit from it.

Ilaw ni Juan para sa mas ligtas na daan aims to successfully develop the Brgy. Villa Kananga.
Establishing a solar street lights can help to reduce energy consumption that is environmental
friendly. As our country experience the affluence of sun light, solar products is the best option.
There are many benefits of solar street lights: produce pollution free, a natural source of energy, a
great investment on contrary to pay utility bills, and long lasting life. By having street lights on
every street, it can provide:
a. Safe evening. Where everyone is no longer afraid to walk or drive alone the streets.
b. Improves the safety of riders, drivers, and people walking alone. By this we can reduce the rate
crimes and rate of accidents and injuries that usually happened at night.
c. Clearer and visible vision. A clearer view to roadways makes the driver or rider more alert to
surroundings.

Installing an effective road lightning and setting standards in street lights makes the barangay more
secure and invulnerable to all possible hazards. Ignoring the importance of lights during night can cause
many awful things, especially during this time where some people are relentless and unmerciful to do
bad thing not until they are caught by the law.
