The Philippines is among the world’s most disaster-prone countries and most affected by climate
change. With any disaster a multi-purpose evacuation center is a must in every barangay. It should
have an architectural design that can accommodate the population of a certain barangay or town.
Evacuation center that can be a temporary shelter to many families during times of calamities must
include accommodation for the peoples basic needs. Similar to a P36 million two storey evacuation
center opens in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, it has rooms, bathrooms, toilets, kitchen, dining area,
and storage rooms which can serve people up to 18 towns from the province of antique during times

Mayor Gomez said that Ormoc City is often hit by typhoons and other calamities and because of that
an evacuation center in Ormoc City, Leyte, with complete facilities was built on January 17, 2019. it is a
two storey accommodation building with a 200KVA generator, it has facilities like toilet and bathroom
building, laundry/drying and water tank building, office and infirmary building, generator room, pump

Evacuation center in Batangas was constructed on 8th of august, 2018. The said evacuation center is
environmental-friendly because the construction of it did not use trees as part of their materials. It is
also a multi purpose evacuation center for the reason that it will not only be an evacuation center but
it can also be used as a covered park, assembly and recreation activity area when there is no

After the typhoon Yolanda in 2013 hits Guiuan, Eastern Samar, the town absorbed the full impact of
the typhoon Yolanda being the first landfall of typhoon. In 2016 they built a multi-purpose evacuation
center that will provide safe shelter for 350 people in times of calamities. This evacuation center will
also serve as an area for community gatherings and youth activities for the town. It is also a child-
friendly space for children during a calmity because they also include playground that can be use by the

In Zamboanga City they minimize the use of schools as a temporary shelter typhoons and other natural
calamities because they don’t want to have any disruption for the students after the disaster. The
public works department has already completed three evacuation center costing 102 million in
Zamboanga. It is built to be gender sensitive and can accommodate persons with disability. They also
include wheelchair ramps, railings, separate toilets for male and female, an infirmary, laundry and
