Important word to know:  What it means:

Look and Say word (AKA:  A word that Scholars should know just by looking at it.
sight word)  They do not need to sound these words out. Example: the,
see, a

Community  1. a place where people live, work, learn and play

2. a group of people living in the same place or having a
particular characteristic in common.
3. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of
sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Characters  Who the story is about - people, animals, objects, creatures

Setting  Where the characters are in the story ie. farm, city, home,
school

Literacy connections: When you read with your Scholar, be sure to have
them read the words that we have been learning if you see them in your
texts/books. Some of the words we have learned so far: the, see, a, happy,
on, I, my, is. Scholars can follow along with your reading by pointing to the
words as you read them. Make sure they point from left to right and move
down the page. You can also point out other text features, such as
punctuation marks. Think about how you would read something that has a
question mark or an exclamation point compared to a period. You can also
figure out who the character is and where the character is in the story.

Math connections: You can work with your Scholar on using positional
words. Make it an I spy game! I spy something that is on top of the
refrigerator. I spy something that is inside the closet. You could add 2D and
3D shapes to your clues. I spy something rectangular next to the couch. I
spy a sphere that is under the table. So much fun!

Use these flashcards to help your Scholar learn Look and Say words:

the  see  my

on  is  happy
