Important word to know:  What it means:

Activism   Taking action to make social change. Scholars also heard it
defined in a book as “if there’s a mess, it’s our job to fix it”

Look and Say word (AKA:  A word that Scholars should know just by looking at it.
sight word)  They do not need to sound these words out. Example: the,
see, a

Community  1. a place where people live, work, learn and play

2. a group of people living in the same place or having a
particular characteristic in common.
3. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of
sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Characters  Who the story is about - people, animals, objects, creatures

Setting  Where the characters are in the story ie. farm, city, home,
school

Literacy connections: When you read with your Scholar, be sure to have
them read the words that we have learned. Practice writing the words below.
Scholars can follow along with your reading by pointing to the words as you
read them. Make sure they point from left to right and move down the page.
You can also figure out who the character is and where the character is in
the story.

Math connections: You can work with your Scholar on adding within 5. Find
any 5 objects and break them into 2 groups. How many are in one group, how
many are in the other? What happens when you put them back together?
This is especially helpful if you can find objects that are the same with slight
variations (for example, two different colored buttons) so scholars can more
easily see the different groups become a whole.
