Man Booker Prize Winners List 2019

Margaret Atwood and Bernardine Evaristo won Booker Prize 2019 for their novels The Testament &
Girl, Women, Other. Atwood’s The Testaments, a follow-up to her dystopian The Handmaid’s Tale, and
Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other, which is told in the voices of 12 different characters, mostly black
women.
Evaristo’s win makes her the first black woman to win the Booker since it began in 1969 and the first
black British author. At 79, Atwood becomes the prize’s oldest winner. The Canadian author previously
won the Booker in 2000 for The Blind Assassin; she becomes the fourth author to have won the prize
twice.

Physics 2019:- The 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics are awarded James Peebles for contributions to our
understanding of the evolution of the universe and Earth’s place in the cosmos, Michel Mayor for
theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology, Didier Queloz for the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting
a solar-type star
Chemistry 2019:- The 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry are awarded to John Goodenough, M. Stanley
Whittingham and Akira Yoshino “for the development of lithium-ion batteries”. Through their work,
they have created the right conditions for a wireless and fossil fuel-free society, and so brought the
greatest benefit to humankind.
Physiology or Medicine 2019:- The 2019 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is awarded jointly to
William G. Kaelin Jr, Sir Peter J. Ratcliffe and Gregg L. Semenza “for their discoveries of how cells
sense and adapt to oxygen availability.” They identified molecular machinery that regulates the
activity of genes in response to varying levels of oxygen.
Literature 2019:- The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2019 is awarded to the Austrian author Peter
Handke “for an influential work that with linguistic ingenuity has explored the periphery and the
specificity of human experience.”
Literature 2018: The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2018 is awarded to the Polish author Olga Tokarczuk
“for a narrative imagination that with encyclopedic passion represents the crossing of boundaries as a
form of life.”
Peace 2019:- Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali is awarded the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his
important work to promote reconciliation, solidarity and social justice. 2019 Peace Prize Laureate Abiy
Ahmed Ali is Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia since April 2018. He was
born in Beshasha, Ethiopia.
Abiy Ahmed Ali is the first Ethiopian to be awarded a Nobel Prize. This year’s prize is also the 100th
Nobel Peace Prize.

Economics 2019:- The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Sveriges Riksbank
Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2019 to Abhijit Banerjee, his wife Esther Duflo
and Michael Kremer “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.”
Women’s World Boxing Championships Winners 2019

The 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships are held in Ulan-Ude, Russia from 3 to 13
October 2019. Indian boxers took part in four semifinal on 12th October 2019- Manju Rani (48kg –
Light Flyweight), MC Mary Kom (51kg – Flyweight), Jamuna Boro (54kg – Bantamweight) and Lovlina
Borgohain (69kg – Welterweight).
Mary Kom, Jamuna Boro and Lovlina Borgohain ended up with bronze medals, while Manju Rani won
the Silver Medal.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has been transferred and appointed as Governor of
Goa. Former IAS officers Girish Chandra Murmu and Radha Krishna Mathur will take his place as
Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. respectively. The two Union Territories

Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the third phase of Delhi-Meerut
Expressway.It connects Dasna in Ghaziabad to Hapur. The over 22-kilometre long section has been
built at a cost of 1,058 crore rupees. The project is part of 82-kilometre long Expressway which
connects Delhi with Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh. सिक, पररविन और राजमागड मंत्री नननतन गर्करी ने

In Assam, in order to gradually collect and remove the harmful plastics from the ecosystem,
Bongaigaon District administration is going to launch a campaign 'Plants for Plastic'. The campaign
aims to encourage people to collect and remove plastic from their houses, commercial establishments

To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi, Country's largest PSU oil refiner and
retailer Indian Oil Corporation has taken up various initiatives to support the government's drive to
eliminate single use plastic by converting these toxic wastes to productive use. The company will use
its refinery operations to convert the single use plastic waste into a specialised bitumen that can be

The Central Government has constituted a committee of officers to suggest measures to augment GST
revenue collections and administration. The terms of reference of the panel includes making
suggestions related to systemic changes in goods and services tax (GST) including checks and balances

Reserve Bank has enhanced the withdrawal limit for the account holder of Punjab and Maharashtra
