INTRODUCTION

At DSU, students receive quality education and become acquainted with

individuals who share diverse interests yet blend in very easily. Thus, DSU not
only helps to expand the mental faculties of individuals but also transforms them
into more open-minded, accepting and involved citizens. DSU offers programs in
Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences and
Management Sciences for bachelor students.
During the summer break of 2018, Dr Imtiaz Hussain HOD of Electrical
Department DSU, Sir Nafees Ahmed gave me a list of different tasks which were to
be done during the internship period.

1. Designing a Logo for Electrical Department of DSU

The most
important work to be done steadily was to make a logo for Electrical
Engineering Department of DSU.
Sir Nafees said that the logo must be simple and must have colors
similar to our University logo. Therefore, the colors were orange, maroon
and white. Since I was making a logo for Electrical Department therefore I
was having electrical components in my mind to draw them in our logo.
I made several different designs which took around 3 days. I made
symbol of E using different electrical components to show a first word of
Electrical or EE which is used as starting of registration number for
Electrical Engineering students.
 The logo designs were shown to higher faculties. And they selected one of
them. The selected logo
contains only two colors,
white and maroon. It has 3
different circuit lines
making a symbol E. This
logo has been signed by
the Head of Electrical
Department and officially
recognized and later used
in different graphic designs and videos.

2. Designing an Industrial Visits 2017/18 video

In year 2017/18 Electrical department of DSU took their students
into Industrial Visits. They took semester 8 to Bin Qasim Power Plant,
semester 7 to Pakistan Cables and semester 6 to K Electric AZM Learning
Institute.

In spite of unavailability of official photos, I gathered them from

different students. The sound of Miss Farah was recorded and used within
the video. A background musical sound was also used. This video took
around a week to complete.
3. Designing a Faculty Template
Sir Nafees told that the template should contain a photo of a faculty
member, his name and his position, past education, past experience and his
research interests.
It took me around a week to successfully complete this template. I
used a large area of maroon color because it matches the logo of Electrical
Engineering department. And different shades of orange are also used. And
circuit lines abstract shows that this template belongs to Electrical
Department.

This template is praised by all the faculty members. Then I covered

these templates for all faculty members of EE department. Therefore, it
took me around one and a half week to gather all the information and
 photos of all the EE department faculties and publish them in this template.
Some of them were again edited because of little issues.

4. Designing a Lab template

After completing the
faculties template work, I
started to design a Lab
template for EE department
of DSU. It took me two
working days to design a Lab
template.
Sir Nafees gave the
idea that the template should
contain three different
photos of a lab. The name of a
lab should also be there and
there should be some
information regarding the
lab.
I used the orange
abstract this time below the
photo frame. A 25% transparent rectangle with little curvy edges is placed
around the information and t heading of the Lab.
After filling all of the
labs into this template and
exporting them in JPEG file, I
got informed that this Lab
template should not be used
because it contains a large
amount of orange color.
Therefor I designed a new
template and remove the
orange abstract background
and also the 25% transparent
rectangle from below the
information of a lab. The
tagline was also replaced
with a new one. All the Labs
were published again into
 these templates. This new template was acclaimed by all the higher
authorities.

5. Designing an Alumni template

DHA Suffa University has a strong interaction between there Alumni.
After completing the designs of Labs, I started my work to design for an
Alumni template. It was decided that the name of this template will be
Graduate Diaries. An Image of the Alumni student was included in it, His
name, his designation and the name of the company where he works was
also included in this template. The logo of the company is placed at the right
bottom.
6. Designing a Pride of Performance template
Students of
Electrical Engineering
department take part in
different competitions
and usually they win
them. This template is
made to make them feel
honorable. Pride of
performance was the
name given to this
template.
A shadow of the
fans of winning team
holding banners was
placed with some
transparency. This time
the orange abstract
theme was placed again
at the background but
the higher authorities disliked and told to put simple theme at the bottom.
I put a simple
white shady
background instead of
that orange abstracts.
Two different types of
the templates were
designed. One for the
photos in a portrait
position and the other
for the photos in
landscape position.
Some place is
left at the bottom of the
photo. The name of the
students is nearly
under the photo. And
the related information
is inside the two
maroon color lines.
7. Designing a new CPD Workshop template
Most universities provide their
members with the Continuing
Professional Development, requirements
are generally as a minimum annual
number of hours. These targets are
defined by the accrual of CPD hours
through training, seminars & workshops,
events & conferences as well as other
structured forms of CPD learning.
The last task in the list was to make a new template for CPD
Workshop. There was an old template but it was quite dull and looked
unattracted. It was told that the new template must be similar to old one
but should look better.

It was a difficult task to make a similar but better than the old. After
two days of hard work, I creatively attained this new design. This new
design is published in JPEG file having only the different headings. I made
this file editable using Microsoft Publisher removing all the unwanted
material which could be reedited again.
8. Managing an Electrical Department Facebook page
Electrical Engineering Department Facebook page was published in
2015. This page is controlled by the Head of department, Sir Nafees and
Miss Farah. They gave me a role to manage this page. Since I was doing
graphics design internship therefore I used to post into it everyday.

9. Publishing a YouTube channel

 Electrical Engineering Department did not have its official YouTube
page. I made few videos therefore I published a new YouTube channel. For
this purpose, a new Gmail account was made on the same day. The email
account is named EE Dept DSU and its email is dsuelectrical@gmail.com.
For a month url of youtube was unable to change because of youtube
privacy. After having more than 100 subscribes on Youtube channel I
customized the youtube channel to https://www.youtube.com/eedeptdsu\

10. Designing a tag bar

A tag bar shows the address of graphic design post. I had to make a tag bar
to show the Facebook username and YouTube channel link of Electrical

Engineering Department of DSU. I was unable to customize the link of

YouTube channel for a month therefore only temporary tag bar having a
Facebook username was used till that period.

11. Clipping the official Electrical Department video

Electrical Department of DHA Suffa University released there first
official video in summer. I was given a task to clip it into short intervals. A
video was too long and had different interview in it. There were 18
different interviews including the faculty members, Alumni and students of
EE Department. It took me around a complete working day to crop these
into clips.
12. Editing the clipped official Electrical Department videos
I was told to edit the cropped video clips and place different things in
starting, ending and placing a logo at the upright part of all the clips.

13. Editing the event photos of Electrical Department

Electrical Department of DSU appears in different events
internationally and around Pakistan too. Electrical department has a vast
number of
event photos
and they asked
this time to
edit each and
every photo
they have.
Treatment to
each photo
was done
using different
techniques.
 Adobe Photoshop Lightroom software is used by me for this
purpose. This software is easy to use and light also. Logo of Electrical
Department was also placed on the upper right corner of each photo in a
same position.

14. Editing the FYP Projects booklet

An FYP Booklet was publish during the
summer of 2018. This FYP booklet had a total of
19 electrical projects in it.
I had to place a logo of Electrical
Department between the mid of each page. Each
single page has a different FYP project data in it.
The logo is 75 % transparent and fit
horizontally from both vertical left and right
sides. This booklet was published into JPEG file
from the PDF and later posted one by one on EE
Department DSU Facebook page. These photos
are tagged to the members of their project and
the supervisor also on Facebook.
15. Designing a brochure of Power System Incubation Center
Sir Asif Gulraiz
is heading the Power
System Incubation
Center in DSU. This is
established in EE
Department of DSU to
address the current
energy crisis and
provide solutions to
power engineering
problems. It has
collaborations with
various industries in
the power sector to
bridge gap between
academia and industry. The information and photos were given by Sir Asif Gulraiz.
16. Designing a post of Open Day for EE Department
On Sunday July 15 2018, DSU invited everyone into there Open Day.
EE department also had to prepare itself. I was given a task to prepare an
attractive Open Day invitation post. It took a day to complete this task. This
invitation post was promoted on Facebook by paying credit. Each faculty
member including Head of Department liked this invitation post and they
all shared on WhatsApp too.
17. Designing different videos of Open Day for EE Department
On Friday the last working day before the Open Day, Sir Gul Shehzad
gave me another task. He said to make two different videos. He provided me
the data, this time the was short but it was to be done within the given limit.

I did whatever I can do in university until 06:30 PM Friday evening. But a

lot of work was left behind. Sir Nafees told to do one of the videos in home
and submit through the DropBox in this night. I went home and continued
to work until I finished first video without taking a break. This video was
also promoted on Facebook.
 The second Video was made in the same portrait way and consisted
of Electrical Department brochure. I converted the PDF file online into JPEG
and added sound track in the video. These videos were praised by all the EE
department faculties.

18. Designing different standees for IEEEP fair

Sir Bilal Khan told me to make IEEEP standees for all the projects going in the
fair. I worked creatively to design these six standees. These all standees have a DSU

and EE logo to represent there university and

department.
19. Designing a Facebook video cover
Sir Nafees give me this interesting task to make a video like Facebook cover.
It took me two days to design this cover and was appreciated by the faculty.

20. Designing a 14 August video

A special video was made on the Independence Day of Pakistan. Each
faculty member was given a line to speak in front of video recorder.
Different clips of each faculty member were joined to make a single video.
 Despite the bad noisy sound due to mic, I edited the sound also that is why
this video took too long to complete. A back track sound of Pakistani
National Anthem was imported from youtube credited to Leo Twins.

21. Designing a 14 August poster

A special 14 August poster was made to post on Facebook. It was similar to
the one used in 14 August video.
22. Designing a Hajj Mubarak poster
Hajj is a special
occasion for all Muslims.
EE Department of DSU
prepared an especial post
to congratulate all the
Muslims. It was done by
sharing this post on
Facebook and WhatsApp
groups etc.
Hajj Mabroor is
written in Arabic
typography. An Ayah is
there regarding Hajj with
translation in Urdu and
English.

23. Designing an Eid ul Adha Poster

This is my last task
given before my
internship ended. I
choosed a simple font and
created it with a
simplicity creativity.
Only EID UL ADHA
Mubarak is written into it.
An Islamic Persian sort of
pattern design is used at
the bottom.
 24. Uploading all stuff to Google Drive
All of the stuff that I designed, edited or used was all synced into the official
Google Drive account of Electrical Engineering Department of DHA Suffa University.

CONCLUSION
Internship in EE department of DSU is my first internship in my life history.
I learnt a lot during these two months of period. I learnt the professional working
environment and how to fulfill the orders of your Sir.
Some new things that I learnt regarding this internship were
 Making a video using Adobe Premiere
 Placing a logo using Adobe Lightroom.
 Promoting a post on Facebook
 Removing noise from audio or video track
 Creating captions in a video
Thanks to Sir Nafees for giving me a chance to work with Electrical
Engineering Department of DSU. All faculty was nice to me and no one pressured
me at my work.
