Radius of Gyration
Radius of Gyration
A measure of the way in which the mass of a rotating rigid body is distributed about
the axis of rotation, radius of gyration.
It represents a length, hence, it has the unit, metre and dimensions, M0L1T0.

Example Find the radius of gyration of a body having MOI 20 kg m2 and mass
4 kg.

Example Two rods of mass M and 2M having the same length L are joined as
shown in the figure. Find the MOI about an axis passing through their
common point and perpendicular to them.
