Explanation

As the theatre teacher, we don’t pay the teacher salary, which would also be considered the
directors’ salaries. The designer’s salary is as much as it is because we expect the designer to not only
design, but also to supervise and assist the students throughout the process of carrying out the design
and help during tech week. We decided to include “Meals” as part of our expenses because we can’t
exactly pay our students, nor parent volunteers, however we want to be able to compensate them for
their time in some way, and we came upon providing meals as an adequate substitute. Our Misc. section
is for office supplies, stage management supplies, and other possible expenses unthought of. Our
improvement section is to provide funds for things or equipment that may need to be upgraded, or
areas of the auditorium theatre that need to be upgraded as well, such as possibly buying a new Genie
or a new lighting instrument, etc. In our income section we included taxes because each state requires
that taxes be paid to the schools, which adds to the school’s funding. We figured the theatre
department would only get a small fraction of that tax that went towards public schools, and that is
how we came to the number we got for tax income for the theatre department.
