PREFERENCES
AS PERCEIVED BY THE
GRADE 11 STUDENT OF
TUKURAN TECHNICAL
VOCATION HIGH SCHOOL,
SCHOOL YEAR 2019-2020

ADVISER : LITO P.
BAHIAN, DTE

This study aimed to determine the factors influencing the track and
strand preferences of Grade 11 Students in Tukuran Technical Vocational
High School, S.Y 2019-2020, along the factors of affecting the track and
strands.

This research study used a descriptive survey method of research,

which was relevant in evaluating the impact of Track and Strand Preferences

as Perceived by the Grade 11 Students in Tukuran Technical Vocational High

School, SY 2019-2020. It determined and qualified the attitudes and

perspective of the group of persons who provided the information needed in

the research.

vii
The data gathered were then tabulated using a descriptive

statistic like frequency, and percentage count, weighted mean, and t-

test was employed.

The Majority of the participants are males with a frequency of 44

(52.38%). On the other hand, Female has a frequency of 40 (47.61%).

The Majority of the participant preferred the IA strand of the Academic

Track with a frequency 21 (25%). The leading factor that influenced the

student’s decision in choosing a track/strands is the Job Opportunity

has an overall weight mean of 2.83 and interpreted as Agree and item

N0.10 ‘’I consider the positive outcome of my career, so I prefer job

opportunities’’ ranked the highest point (WM=3.10). The Career

Guidance Program was suggested proposed program in strengthening

the career preferences of Grade 10 student.

It can be concluded that there are more male participants than

females. Industrial Arts (IA) is the most preferred strand of the

students. Job Opportunity is the leading factor affecting the track and

strand preferences of the Junior High School students of Tukuran

Technical Vocational High School. There is no significant relationship

between the demographic profile of the participants and the factors

influencing their track and strand preferences.

viii
Anchored on the findings and conclusions, it is recommended that the

proposed Career Guidance Program was suggested to strengthen the

decision-making abilities of students regarding career choice. Students must

take career choices seriously and make a decision based on adequate

information and effective strategies for making choices. Parents should

continue to support and encourage their children to boost their abilities in

terms of career decision and planning. The teacher must enhance instruction

and help students in building and in strengthening their interests, abilities,

skills, and intelligence that are all useful in the world of works. A similar study

should be conducted to another school to compare participants’ responses

and validate the current study using the same parameters. Hence, the

researchers theorize that the decision-making of students in terms of

choosing track/strands can be optimized by addressing the factors

(Personality Factors, Family Factor, Job Opportunity, and Peer Influence) we

proposed of conducting career guidance of the junior high school.
