 CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

The senior high school plays a vital role in student academic development, it has a

significant impact on what career would the students will choose. The additional two years

meant more time for the students to contemplate. It provides opportunities for students to

concentrate on a certain field in Business, Science and Engineering, Humanities and Social

Science, and General Academics.

According to R.A no. 10533 also known as the «Enhanced Basic Education Act of

2013» under SEC 02 — The State shall create a functional basic education system that will

develop productive and responsible citizens equipped with the essential competencies, skills

and values for both life-long learning and employment. 

According to R.A no. 10533 SEC. 05 — The DepED shall formulate the design and

details of the enhanced basic education curriculum. To ensure college readiness and to avoid

remedial and duplication of basic education subjects, the DepED shall coordinate with the

CHED and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

The researchers study this to find how students are preparing for their college which

doesn't appear to be easy for it requires time and effort to be done. Therefore, there are a lot

of factors to consider to make the students choose their right paths.

Research Questions

The study aims to know the factors to consider in preparation to college life of the

Grade 12 HUMSS students.

And it sought to answer the following questions:

1. Profile of the respondents

1.1. Name

1.2. Sex

1.3. Track

1.4. Section

2. How do students prepare for their college education?

3. What are the factors to consideration before choosing a course in college?

Scope and Delimitations

This research study only focuses in the topic entitled "The College Preparation of

Grade 12 Academic Strands in Cauayan City National High School" main campus in the

school year 2020-2021.

This study will only be conducted during the first semester of 2020-2021 academic

year and it is expected to be completed at the end of the first semester on the said academic

year.
Benefits and Beneficiaries

The findings of this research study could possibly contribute to the knowledge of the

following

Students. This study is important to the students for this could help them think of steps they

need to consider for choosing their college course and also to evaluate their situation.

Parents. This research study will be helpful for parents to know what makes it hard for their

children’s to pick their college courses, therefore, parents will help their children’s for

choosing by supporting.

Teachers. The significance of this study to the teachers is it could also help them guide the

students for choosing their college courses that is genuinely fit for them.

School. This study will help the school to adjust for students who find it hard for them to pick

out their college courses and could possibly make it easier for them to choose.

Researchers and Future Researchers. This study will serve as a basis for them to help the

other future researchers to have a facts and data that they may need for their future study.
