1.

What is the difference between cellular respiration and getting energy from a log by
burning it?
When a log burns, the energy stored in the wood is released quickly as heat and
light while in cells, chemical energy stored in food molecules in released constant in a series of
enzyme assisted by chemical reactions.

2. Why is ATP called an “energy currency”?

ATP is called the “energy currency” of the cell, and of life because it is the energy
molecule that all cells need in order to do anything within the human body. The molecule is used
like a battery within cells and allows the consumption of one of its phosphorus molecules turning
into ADP once the cell's phosphorus is used.

3. Why is cell respiration more efficient than glycolysis?

This happen because cell respiration produced more ATP causing it to be more
active and efficient.

4. How are aerobic respiration and anaerobic respiration different?

Aerobic respiration is a process in which requires oxygen to break down glucose
into carbon dioxide and water, produces a large amount of energy while anaerobic
respiration is a process in which does not require the use of oxygen, produces small
amounts of energy.

Answer the following multiple choice questions by highlighting your choice.

5. In what organelle does cellular respiration occur?

A. Chloroplast
B. Golgi apparatus
C. Endoplasmic reticulum
D. Mitochondrion

6. Why must glucose be broken down to generate ATP during cellular respiration?
A. Glucose breakdown is the only source of ATP in the cell.
B. For the energy released by cellular respiration, ATP is a more usable form than glucose.
C. Without the breakdown of glucose to ATP, a cell would dehydrate and shrivel up.
D. This breakdown gives off less heat than does any other metabolic reaction.

7. Glycolysis is distinct from cellular respiration because:

A. Glycolysis does not produce ATP.
B. Glycolysis utilizes oxygen.
C. Glycolysis does not occur in the mitochondria.
D. The products of glycolysis do not enter the mitochondria.
8. Complete the following diagram, some initials have been included for you. Indicate the
number of ATP produced, as well as the other products of respiration.
