System Operation
Operation
Seven data bus systems are used:
 HS-CAN bus
 HS-CAN multimedia bus
 Private HS-CAN bus
 MS-CAN bus
 Private MS-CAN bus
 LIN bus
 ISO bus
Two modules are designed as gateways:
 the BCM between HS- CAN and MS- CAN.
 the instrument cluster between MS-CAN and multimedia HS- CAN
Component Description
Terminating resistors
A total of 12 terminating resistors are installed.
The two terminating resistors, 120 ohms each, of the HS-CAN data bus are integrated into the PCM and
the BCM. Since both 120 ohm resistors are connected in parallel, the total resistance is 60 ohms
(measured at the DLC). If a control unit is disconnected from the network, 120 ohms must be present
between pin 6 and 14 on the DLC.
The termination resistors of the HS-CAN multimedia system are in the instrument cluster and in the
audio unit.
The HS-CAN multimedia bus signals can be picked off via pins 1 and 8.
The RCM is connected with the module CAN via a private HS- ABS bus. Two separate termination
resistors are installed here.
Similarly, two resistors of the private HS-CAN bus are installed in the radar unit and in the proximity
warning module.
The MS-CAN terminating resistors are located in the instrument cluster and in the BCM. The total
resistance can be measured at the DLC between pins 3 and 11 and should be 60 ohms.
The resistors of the private MS-CAN are both in the BCM. The total resistance cannot therefore be
measured at the DLC.
HS CAN
The following HS-CAN networks are used:
 HS-CAN bus:
o Front camera module
o Proximity warning module
o Laser sensor module
o RCM
o ABS module
o Steering wheel rotation sensor
o Parking Aid Module
o PCM
o EPS module
o TCM
o Gas discharge headlamp module
o SYNC Generation II module (at later date)
o BCM
 HS-CAN multimedia bus:
o SYNC Generation II module (at later date)
o Hands-free phone kit/Bluetooth®/voice control module
o audio unit
o Mini audio system control unit (at later date)
o Multi-function display
o Digital signal processor
o Instrument Cluster
 Private HS-CAN bus:
o RCM
o ABS module
o Proximity warning module
o Proximity warning radar unit
The private HS-CAN is used for fast, interference-free data exchange.
The HS-CAN bus, the HS- CAN multimedia bus and the private HS- CAN bus have a speed of 500 kBit/s.
MS CAN
The following MS-CAN networks are used:
 MS-CAN bus:
o BCM
o Instrument Cluster
o Fuel fired booster heater
o Trailer Module
o EATC module
o GPS module (at later date)
o Reversing camera module (at later date)
o front PDM
o front DDM
o keyless vehicle module
o SYNC Generation II module (at later date)
 Private MS-CAN bus:
o left-hand module, blind spot monitoring
o right-hand module, blind spot monitoring
The MS-CAN bus and the private MS- CAN bus have a speed of 125 kBit/s.
LIN bus
The following systems are connected to the LIN bus:
 Audio system control unit
