BODY:

1. Main Point I: Pets can actually help people relieve stress

a. According to Fields, L. (2013, October 24). 6 Ways Pets Can

Improve Your Health. Retrieved October 11, 2019, from

https://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-

pressure/features/6-ways-pets-improve-your-health, when people

pet their pet, cat or dog for example, it releases a relaxation

hormone and cuts down a stress hormone.

b. It also lowers your blood pressure according to Alan Beck,

director of the Center for the Human-Animal Bond at Purdue

University

Transition: Now that I've discussed how pets can help people relieve stress, I will now discuss

the ways they impact your health for the better.

1. Pets can bring so much good to your health and lifestyle.

a. According to Pets are good for your health, and we have the

studies to prove it. (2019, October 8). Retrieved October 11, 2019,

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mnn.com/family/pets/stories/

amp/11-studies-that-prove-pets-are-good-your-health, living with a

cat or a dog on your first year of life could actually reduce the

chances of you having pet allergies as well as your chances of

getting asthma.

b. Study also found that newborns who live with cats have lower

chances of getting asthma, pneumonia or bronchitis.

3
c. Dog owners have lower chances of getting heart disease, lowers

blood pressure, and cholesterol.

d. Dogs benefit people who have cardiovascular disease. They're

four times more likely to be alive after a year if they own a dog,

and also more likely to survive a heart attack.

e. Exercise by walking

Transition: Now that I’ve discussed the health benefits pets have, I will now discuss how they

can actually help people who feel lonely or depressed.

1. If you have ever felt alone, and not wanted by somebody, here’s how pets

can help with that:

a. According to Robinson, K. M. (2017, December 4). How Pets

Help Manage Depression. Retrieved October 11, 2019, from

https://www.webmd.com/depression/features/pets-depression, 74%

of pet owners said having a pet improved their mental health.

b. Avigayil Brown a girl who suffered from depression mentioned

that pets gave her, “Comfort, companionship, and love. If

depression makes you feel lonely, pets can break the cycle.”

Brown also mentioned how her cat would snuggle her and follow

her and that gave her a calming feeling.

c. She also mentioned that “A regular schedule... Knowing you have

to feed, walk, or care for your pet may give you a sense of purpose

and routine.”

4
d. Desiree Wiercyski, a life coach in Fort Wayne, IN says that pets

have a relaxing effect, when patting or stroking an animal, it

improves your mood because “touch helps increase oxytocin levels

and reduces cortisol, the infamous stress-related hormone...Even

the sound of a cat purring can be soothing.”

e. Depression can make you avoid people, but pets can take you out

of that cycle because instead, pets can help you meet new people.

III. Conclusion

A. Review of Main Points:

1. First, I will discuss about how pets can help relieve stress

2. Second,Second, I will discuss the health benefits pets can cause.

3. Lastly, I will discuss how pets help people who feel lonely or depressed.

B. Restate Thesis :From helping relieve stress to helping people who feel alone, pets are

much more helpful than you think.

C. Closure: In conclusion, pets are much more important that what some people might of

though. They help humans in many positive ways that impact their lives for the better.
