An often asked question is: What is a Cover Letter and why is it needed?

Is the Resume not


enough?

Here, I have explained the same:


A cover letter is an introductory document that is sent along with the resume.
If also describes your profile in brief.
Earlier, when people used to send their resume by post, the Cover Letter would be sent in an
envelope along with resume as an introduction.
Now, with job applications being sent by email:
 You should use the text of the provided cover letter as the main text of the email that you
send.
So just copy-paste the text from the cover letter into the email, and edit if needed
 The resume will be in attachment.

Similarly, if you are applying through Linkedin, Facebook or Whatsapp:

 The text of the cover letter can also be used to introduce yourself to a recruiter on other
media like whatsapp, LinkedIn chat or FB chat, followed up with the resume as attachment.
So, just copy-paste the text from the cover letter into the the Linkedin/FB/WA chat and edit
if needed
