ISTIDRAJ

Istidraj is the pleasure and pleasure that Allah gives to those who are far from Him
who actually becomes a punishment for him whether he repents or goes further.

The simple thing is, if we find someone who is getting worse the quality of
worship, the less sincere, the quantity is reduced, while the more immoral, both immoral to
God and humans, then for him Allah's blessings are abundant, the pleasure of life is so
easily obtained, never sick and woe, long life, even God gives extraordinary to the strength
of his body. So, be careful this might be istidraj for him, not karamah, God gradually
pulled him into destruction.

According to The big Indonesian Dictionary, Istidraj is extraordinary things or

circumstances that God gives. To unbelievers as a test so that they are arrogant and forget
themselves to God, such as pharaohs and treasures. That is usually the way Allah gives to
infidels and immoralists. As the following information.

"And the unbelievers must never think that our formidable gift to them is better for them.
Indeed, We give them respite only to increase their sins; and for those who despise
punishment." (Ali‘ Imran: 178)

From ‘Uqbah bin‘ Amir radhiyallahu ‘anhu, the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa
sallam said:

"If you see Allah giving to the servant of the world he wants, even though he continues to
be in disobedience to Him, then (know) that it is istidraj (trap in the form of a blessing that
is hastened) from Allah." (Narrated by Ahmad. 4: 145. Shaykh Shu'aib Al Arnauth said
that this hadith has only been seen from another path).

Allah Ta'ala said,

"So when they forgot the warning they had been given, we also opened all the doors of
pleasure to them; so that if they rejoice in what has been given to them, We torture them
suddenly, when they are silent despair. "(Surat al-An'am: 44)

In Al Jalalain's Tafsir (p. 141) it is stated, "When they left the warning given to
them, unwilling to heed the warning, Allah opened to them all the doors of favor as a form
of istidraj to them. Until they are proud of it with arrogance. Then we tortured them
suddenly. Then they fall silent from all kindness. "

Shaykh As Sa'di stated, "When they forget the warnings of Allah given to them,
then the sharing of the door of the world and its delicacy is opened, they are negligent.
Until they rejoice with what is given to them, God finally tortures them suddenly. They also
despair of various kindness. Like it's heavier torture. They are lulled, neglectful, and calm
with the state of their world. But it is actually more severe punishment and be a big
disaster. "(Tafsir As Sa'di, p. 260).

Istidraj's Characteristics

1. Our Worship Increases, But More and More Fun

Ibn Athaillah said: "You should be afraid if you always get the gift of God, while you
remain in disobedience to Him, do not let that gift is solely istidraj by Allah".

2. We Do Worship, But Even More Fun

Ali Bin Abi Talib r.a. said: "O son of Adam, remember and beware if you see your Lord
continually bestowing favors on you while you continue to commit immorality to Him"
(Pearl of Nahjul Balaghoh Pg 121)

3. The More We Are Stingy, But The More Wealth

As we know that actually Sodaqoh can make our wealth more and more. When we are
afflicted with miser, never charity, infaq, Sadaqah or extend help from others. But even
more abundant wealth. that is one of the characteristics of istidraj

4. Rarely Sick
Imam Shafi'I once said, everyone must have experienced pain sometime in his life, if
you have never been sick then look back maybe there is something wrong with you.

As it was also told that Pharaoh was a person who had never felt pain, even
sneezing he had never been and that is what brought him even more arrogant self. As
humans, we have to look in the mirror, whether the blessings that we have received are
truly blessings from Allah that will make us closer to him or precisely Istidraj that will lead
us to the punishment of Allah SWT.

The Differences Between Examinations, Adzab and Istidraj

Many still misinterpret the meaning of examinations, adzab and istidraj from the
point of view of disaster. Tigal actually has a very different meaning, and affects different
people even though they are equally affected by the disaster. Here are the differences
between examinations, adzab and istidraj in more detail.

1. Test

The test is a disaster that befell those who believe and diligently worship. The test
aims to test your istiqomahan and strengthen your beliefs. In the Koran, Allah says that we
must not confess our faith before we are given severe tests, such as lack of possessions,
fear of hunger, slander, insults, curses and so on.

To pass the test given by God, we must sincerely accept it and be patient and
trustful in undergoing all the tests. Although it is very heavy, but we do not leave worship
and we are even more active in worship. We also should not be upset when accepting the
test and should be grateful because God still considers us as His servants by being given a
test. But if on the contrary, we are not worshiping and denying when we get the test, it
means we fail.

2. Adzab

Adzab is a disaster that befell those who always neglect their obligations in
worshiping Allah. The goal is as a warning that we want to repent and return to worship
Him.
So when you are diligent, immoral, do not worship, then disaster comes, do not call
it a test, but it is adzab as well as a warning for you. It's still fortunate if you are given the
opportunity to live because there is still time to improve, but if you are not given another
chance, what will happen to us in the hereafter. But there is a similarity between adzab and
testing, that these two things are the same form of God's love for us to always worship Him
and never forget Him.

Just imagine if you are committing immorality then the angel Izrail picked up, of
course you will be a class of wretched people. But because Allah is Most Merciful and
Most Forgiving, Allah gives you a warning by giving calamity so that you repent. Is that
not love?

3. Istidraj

Never pray, pay alms and perform other obligations, but all matters go well, good
fortune, business is progressing, there is no burden from the standpoint of faith, then it is
very likely that such a person is affected by istidraj. The purpose of istidraj is to provide a
painful adzab later on the day of vengeance.

Istidraj is only given to people who have locked their hearts and who are too crazy
to love this world. God let them be swayed in a real error so that they are wretched and
neglect the matters of worship because they are too busy taking care of world affairs.

Why does God allow that? God has repeatedly warned them through disaster, but
they still close their eyes and are reluctant to accept the truth. As a result of their great sins,
they unconsciously locked their hearts from the guidance of Allah. They are allowed to
enjoy the pleasures of the world and to the end of their lives remain immersed in sinful
acts.

Example Story about Istidraj

The Story of the Owner of the Garden Given True Favor Istidraj. Mentioned in the
letter Al Qalam the following story of the owner of the garden,

Verily, We have tried them (the Meccan musrikrikin) as We have tried the garden owners,
when they swear that they will truly reap in the morning, and they will not set aside (the
rights of the poor), then the garden filled with havoc (who came) from your Rabb while
they were sleeping, then the garden became black as the night was pitch black. then they
called to call in the morning: "Go in the morning (this) to your garden if you want to pick
its fruit." they whispered to each other. "Today, let no poor person into your garden." And
they left in the morning with the intention of blocking (poor people) when they (helped).
When they saw the garden, they said: "Truly we are truly people who are misguided (the
way), even we are prevented (from obtaining the results) Said one of the best minds among
them:" Did I not h say to you, you should glorify (to your Lord) They say: "Our Holy Rabb,
verily we are wrongdoers." Then some of them face another part while reproachfully. They
say: "How unfortunate we are; indeed we are transgressors. "Hopefully our Rabb will
replace us with (gardens) better than that; indeed we expect forgiveness from our Rabb.
Such is the doom (of the world). And in fact the punishment of the hereafter is greater if
they find out. (Surat Al-Qalam: 17-33)

Shaykh As Sa'di rahimahullah explained, "The story above shows how the end of
the situation of people who deny goodness. They have been given wealth, children, a long
life and various favors they want. All were given not because they were noble. But given
as a form of istidraj without them knowing. "(Tafsir As Sa'di, p. 928)

Thus the discussion about istidraj. I hope we all avoid these acts of istidraj.
