1 Is the general condition of the structure, suspended
brackets, floor, hook and body acceptable?
2 Roof installed to eliminate hazard of falling objects
(If hazard of falling objects exists) Is the emergency
response procedure available and understood by all?
3 Are slings fitted to the man-cage in a way that it can
only be removed with tools?
4 Is the load test certificate for the man-cage valid?
5 Is the load test certificate and colour-coding for the
slings and shackles valid?
B. Lifting Machine (crane, high –up etc.)
1 Does the crane to be used have powered lowering
(Not free fall)?
2 Is there a safety catch on crane hook in place and
acceptable?
3 Outriggers on lifting machine has fail safe mechanism
to prevent uncontrolled movement?
4 Are brakes on lifting machine working effectively
((perform brake test by lowering the man-cage and
apply the brakes)?
C. Signage
1 Sign visible and in place indicating that cage is used
for personnel only?
2 Is there a sign indicating maximum number of
personnel and SWL (safe working load)?
Notes
1. If wind is stronger than 25kmh , lifting must not proceed with man-cage
2. Lifting slings for suspended man-cage must not be used for any other purpose.
3. Use safety harness at all times –it must be attached to the crane hook.
4. If any of the above is not acceptable the man-cage may not be used.
