Unit Title
Angles and Measurement of Area

Grade Level
6th grade

Time
4 lesson hours

Content
Learning Outcomes [ASSURE (State Objectives)]
 When given an angle, students correctly indicate that two rays make up this angle.
 When given an angle, students correctly indicate the angle by using the symbol.
Instructional Materials & Media [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and
Materials)]
 Prezi Presentation about angle
 Concept Map (Bubbl.us) to recall students previous lesson.
 Board / Ruler / Protractor
 Projection
 Coloured tape/ small whiteboard/ scissors/ protractor /board marker

Learning-Teaching Methods [ASSURE (Select Strategies, Technology, Media and Materials)]

 Questioning: To recall students what we do in the previous lesson.
 Presentation: Using Prezi to enter the topic
 Cooperative Learning: Work in pairs/ group working

Teaching Activities [ASSURE (Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials and Require
Learner Participation)]
- to find and name the angles in student’s name
- to create new angles and measure and represent them in group activity.
Individual Learning 1. Students are asked to write their names and find
Activities the angles in the letters that make up their names.

Group Learning Activities 1. The example which is on Prezi presentation (is explained
in detailed as below)
2. the activity in which students (with a group of 3) create
angles, find the measurements of these angles and represent
them (is explained in detail as below)
Summary
 The angle is formed by two rays with the same starting points.
 To indicate the angle and angle measure, some symbols are used.

Explanation regarding to the implementation of the plan

Firstly, the teacher asks questions about what is the line, line segment, and ray to remind the
previous lessons that are necessary for this course. The teacher shows the concept map (which is
shown in below) he created in Bubble.us to make this reminder easier for students.

After making sure students remember the previous topic, we can start Prezi presentation (which is
added to below).

There are some daily-life examples of angles on the first page of Prezi presentation. In this way, we
make easier for students to where we can observe the concept of angle in daily life.

We show that the angle consists of two rays in accordance with the flow of the presentation. Then,
together with the presentation, we show how the angle and angle measure can be represented by
the symbol. Different representation ways are stated.
After showing how to represent the angle and angle measure different ways, we show an
example (shown as below) on Prezi, and students asked to represent the angle and angle measure
that they observe. In this activity (Group Learning Activity 1) students are expected to work in
pairs.

While students are working, the teacher observe them. If he/she observe if any representation or
angle is forgotten, the teacher the shows the wrong to the class without specifying who did it and
asks the students to find out where they were wrong or what was missing.

Individual Learning Activity 1:

The teacher asks each student to write his/her name and find out how many angles there are in the
letters that make up their names, and the teacher want students to name these angles appropriately
and represent them with symbols. Then he asks them to determine which ones are acute, right and
obtuse angle with their knowledge in 5th grade.
Group Learning Activities 2:
As a group work, we can create a group which includes 3 students and distribute them a colored
tape, a whiteboard, a scissors, a protractor, and a board marker. We wil give them instruction as
below:
 Create lines that go from one side of the whiteboard to the other side and intersect by using
tape.
 Appropriately name angles formed between intersecting lines.
 Find the measure of these angles with the help of a protractor, and represent with symbol.

Then, we can quiz students with the questions (which is added to below)

Back-up Plan:
If there is a problem with the internet connection, we can give examples of everyday life based on
objects in the classroom.
If we can't open the concept map that we created in Bubble.us, we can show concepts such as the
line, line segment and the ray through body movements. (For example: When we open our arms
and hands to two sides, we show a line. When we open our arms and make fists with both hands,
we represent the line segment. If we extend one arm and hand, we will obtain a ray.
