WHEREAS, the Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, Cultural and Historical Affairs and
Street Naming, desires to create an official logo or emblem of the Pasaka Festival that will
represent the festival’s rich history and give a visual representation and image;
WHEREAS, the Pasaka Festival of the Municipality of Tanauan Leyte being an annual
tradition featuring tribal dance drama and street-dancing depicting a community paying
homage to the Blessed Virgin, the Assumption of our Lady, the patroness of Tanauan, Leyte
showcasing the townspeople’s history and culture;
WHEREAS, the emblem of the Pasaka Festival represents historical, cultural, social and
allegorical ideas of the Municipality of Tanauan Leyte;
A. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Molave Tree. The tree represents the “Tan-awan” Molave Tree that served as a look-out
tower for the early inhabitants of the town from the invading Moro pirates and enemies.
Wave. The wave represents the first recorded “Tidal Wave” of 1897 and the storm surge
of 2013 brought about by the cataclysmic Super Typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda.
B. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Pasaka Festival. The name of the annual tribal dance drama and street-dancing.
Patrona. The ascending figure of the Assumption of Our Lady with her halo, the
Municipality’s patroness representing the people’s belief in the story of the Blessed Virgin’s
salvation of the town in times of calamities.
C. SOCIAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Man and Woman. The male and female figures represents the townspeople’s
aspirations and call for progress.
D. ALLEGORICAL IDEAS:
It also represents the waves from the sea and the aquatic resources, a source of
livelihood for the fisher folks of Tanauan.
WHEREAS, it is an utmost need of the Municipality to have an approved official logo for
the Pasaka Festival for use in its official representations, promotions, and functions.
